Exoprimal Introduces Monster Hunter Crossover in Title Update 3

Exoprimal shows off an exciting new crossover with the Monster Hunter franchise alongside Title Update number 3.

Exoprimal Introduces Monster Hunter Crossover in Title Update 3

Fans of the dino shooter Exoprimal and Monster Hunter can finally breathe easy in Title Update 3. Launching on January 18, 2024, alongside the game’s third season is a crossover from fellow Capcom franchise, Monster Hunter. Players will be able to launch an entirely new mission where they will have to face off against Rathalos, a large flying wyvern and king of the skies.

Exoprimal - Hello Rathalos

Additionally, Capcom will be letting players who’ve been wary of making the jump with a free weekend event. This will let interested players be able to access the game, free of charge from Thursday, November 2 at 10:00 AM PDT up until Monday, November 6th at 9:00 AM PST. Exoprimal will also be on a deep 35% sale for the first time. Perfect for those who might enjoy trying out the game.

We’re no Strangers to Love

Exoprimal’s crossover reveal trailer contained a lone hunter taking down a T-Rex, though their moves looked eerily like those of a Monster Hunter using a longsword instead. They eventually get chased around too much and are eventually eaten while some MH music plays in the background.

Exoprimal - Dinosaurs Incoming

An AI then introduces the new challenge these hunters must face off against Rathalos. The mission takes place in a cybernetic arena that starts like most Exoprimal missions (that is, with a ton of dinosaurs just being blasted into the arena). The intrepid group of hunters then start clearing out the trash until they eventually go toe-to-toe with the big bad himself.

Exoprimal - Technology vs Rathalos

The 10-player co-op fight here hardly seems fair, what with the Exoprimal hunters being equipped with all these high-tech lasers, gadgets, and other weapons of mass destruction. This is all against Rathalos with his swipes, jabs, and fire breath attacks. It also looks as if the body part dismembering system from Monster Hunter is still relevant here, as one scene includes the poor Rathalos’ tail being lobbed off. Perhaps to eventually be used to make a fancy new hat.

Exoprimal Exosuits

Aside from the new mission and amazing new boss fight, the Monster Hunter crossover will include some new items, specifically four new Exosuit skins. This comes in the form of skins of the Rathalos armor set, the Kirin armor set, and the Nergigante armor set. The trailer heavily featured the Nergigante set, in particular.

Additionally, a special skin will turn players into the Rajang monster, ready to take on Rathalos! Unfortunately, this is only for the player and you can’t fight Rajang in person.

Exoprimal - Rajang Armed and Ready

It would have been interesting though if Capcom included other weapons, switch skills, or even some cool wirebug moves into the mix.

Exoprimal is currently in its second season. Season 3, when it fully launches, will include an entirely new Jungle map (perhaps to help us transition into the Monster Hunter mood). It will also include 4 Beta variants of existing exosuits which include new rigs and modules. Lastly, the Neo Triceratops boss encounter will be added and will require 10 players to take down.

Mapping the Exoprimals

In case you missed it, Exoprimal is a cooperative shooter taking place in the year 2043. Humanity is on the precipice of destruction as dangerous vortexes have begun springing up, letting loose hordes of genetically modified reptiles and other dangerous dinosaurs. Mankind’s response is the Exofighters: men and women who are adept in fighting the dinosaurs and keeping them in check. Be sure to check out our Exoprimal Review for our thoughts on the game.

Exoprimal - The Neo Triceratops

Exoprimal is currently on a 35% sale which brings the price down to just $38.99 for the standard edition. The game is available on PC (via Steam and PC Gamepass), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and the PlayStation 5.
