Monster Hunter World Iceborne Checklist

Monster Hunter World Iceborne Checklist

With the last month before Monster Hunter World: Iceborne becomes available for hunters, it becomes important that everyone is ready. I’ll be going over some things to keep in mind to prep before Iceborne is released.

Monster Hunter World Iceborne Checklist

Make sure you’ve got these ticked off your list before Monster Hunter World Iceborne arrives this September 6th 2019 for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. There are few things to take care off quest wise, post-story and items that will be incredibly useful as you begin your adventures into Hoarfrost Reach. To find out more about the upcoming expansion be sure to read our MHW Iceborne: Everything We Know, New Monsters, New Locale, New Elements!

  • Have you beaten the game’s story?

Hunters must have the base game of Monster Hunter World, have completed the story, be at least Hunter Rank 16, and have purchased the Iceborne expansion in order to access the new Iceborne storyline and quests.

If not, you will need to complete the following main story quests:

Note:
*= technically once Iceborne goes live, players can omit completing the post story quests as the game will automatically unlock their Hunter Rank limits and mark them as complete. But you can still enjoy the quests before the expansion goes live to get the full story.

  • Are your Item Supplies stocked up?

Depending on the player, their playstyle, and their weapon of choice, their items during quests may differ. Below are some items what will help; * means items I don’t personally use:

  • Adamant Seeds: Increases defense for 3 minutes.
  • Ancient Potion*: Combine Immunizer with Kelbi Horn to create. This potion heals and increases both HP and stamina to max.
  • Antidote: Cures poison and can be bought
  • Attack Seeds: Increases attack for 3 minutes.
  • Armorskin*: Combine Catalyst and Armor Seed to create. Increases your defense until you cart.
  • Astera Jerky: Increases health recovery rate, heals red portion of health, and cures the bleeding ailment. This cheap food item is often overlooked.
  • Demondrug*: Combine Catalyst and Might Seed to create. Increases your attack power until you cart.
  • Demon Powder*: Combine Godbug and Might Seed to create; increases the attack of self and nearby teammates.
  • Dung Pods*: I never use dung pods but these help repel invading monsters like Deviljho, Bezelguese, Fulgar Anjanath, etc. Just fire the dung pod at the annoying monster and it will run away. May need more than 1 shot to prompt them fleeing.
  • Energy Drink*: This item will be useful against the Nightshade Paolumu as it wards off sleep.
  • Farcaster*: Farcasters lets you fast travel to the nearest camp. Perfect moment for this would be in the midst of battle and you need to restock items.
  • Flash Pods: Combine Flash Bug to create; these pods are used to blind a monster temporarily with diminishing returns.
  • Hardshell Powder*: Combine Godbug and Adamant Seed to create; increases the defense of self and nearby teammates.
  • Herbal Medicine*: This is faster to consume to cure poison faster than Antidote;  combine Antidote and Blue Mushroom to create.
  • Large Barrel Bombs: Buy these during Festivals for super cheap and use them whenever you can. Your team put a monster to sleep? Bomb them. The monster you’re hunting fled and is now sleeping? Bomb them. Use slinger or your weapon to set them off but avoid hitting the monster as you want the bombs to do the wake up damage.
  • Lifepowder*: Combine Godbug and Blue Mushroom to create; heals nearby teammates slightly.
  • Max Potion*: Combine Mega Nutrients and Mandragora to create. Heals you quicker than potions and gives you max HP. This is consumed almost instantly when compared to Potions.
  • Mega Barrel Bombs: Combine Large Barrel bombs and Devil’s Blight Mushroom to create. Does more damage than a the Large Barrel. Use this in the same situations as the Large Barrels.
  • Mega Nutrients*: Combine Mega Nutrients with Nutrients and Honey. Mega Nutrients increases your max HP by 20.
  • Mega Potions: Combine Potion and Honey to create.
  • Nulberry*: Cures blights like Dragonblight, Iceblight, Thunderblight, and Waterblight.
  • Nutrients*: Combine Bitterbug and Blue Mushroom to create. Nutrients increases your max HP by 10.
  • Pit Fall Traps: Combine Trap Tool and Net to create. Combine Spider Web and Ivy to create Net. Using this type of trap won’t let hunters to aim for the tail but it last longer than shock traps; just like with shock traps using them often makes them losing their effectiveness.
  • PotionsCombine Herbs to create; can purchased. Players should have max potions in their inventory by buying them during festivals due to their cheap price.
  • Powercharm, Armorcharm, Powertalon, & Armortalon: Purchase these when they become available in the Tradeyard merchant. Buy 2 powercharms and combine 1 Powercharm with 1 Bazelgeuse Talon to create the talon version of the charm. Do the same thing for the armor talon. Each one of these items will stack just by having them in your inventory so make sure you have them. You will be throwing if you don’t.
  • Shock TrapsCombine Trap Tool and Thunderbug to create. Shocks the monster in place for a short period of time with diminishing returns. Avoid using Paralysis weapons as this also stack with Shock Traps quickly losing their effectiveness.
  • Well-Done Steak*: Most people don’t need to bring steaks to replinish stamina as most quest provides rations. However, if you cart often or take long during hunts perhaps you might wanna be a few. Players can use the Canteen in Astera/Seliana to cook Raw Meat for you, or you can use the BBQ during quests.

Hunters can use the Elder Melder to create bowgun ammo, items, and monster materials by using research points and melding points. Certain “ingredients” are used as fodder and each one has its own value of melding points it provides. During Festivals, certain ingredients’ melding points are increased, making these events very handy to stockpile or restore lost supplies.

  • Is Your Canteen Fully Stocked?

Eating is very important and having your canteen fully stocked will prove invaluable. You can check out my full canteen guide here.

  • Are Your Armors and Weapons Iceborne Ready?

Having late game/end game armor and weapons will help the transition between high rank and master rank. Remember that several adjustments will occur when Iceborne goes live and will impact most players. Be in the know and how will it affect you personally here.

  • Is Your Palico Max Level Along With Their Tools?

Hunters who always hunt in groups usually have lower level Palicos. Be sure to have them at max level and have access to all their Palico Tools so they are Iceborne ready also.

After following this checklist you should be ready to take on the next chapter Iceborne!

  1. ckmishn says:

Monster Hunter World was recently voted the 221st best RPG of all time (albeit in a 58 way tie). Personally I’ve never played it because it still has Denuvo, despite it being cracked months ago. If Capcom removed it like they did with DMC5 I would pick up a copy at the next Steam sale.
