Final Fantasy XV Episodes Cancelled as Hajime Tabata Developer Leaves Square Enix

While there was some good news announced by Square Enix during their livestream event, a bit of a surprise was revealed as Hajime Tabata was announced to be leaving the developer.

Final Fantasy XV Episodes Cancelled as Hajime Tabata Developer Leaves Square Enix

The Final Fantasy XV Global Brand Director Akio Ofuji shared that Hajime Tabata would be exiting Square Enix. Hajime Tabata is planning to open his own company after leaving both Luminous Productions and Square Enix.

Four DLCs for Final Fantasy XV were scheduled for release under Tabata’s direction which include focuses on Noctis, Aranea, Ardyn and Lunafreya but have now been cancelled due to his departure with the exception of Ardyn.

Ofuji went on to explain that due to “directional change” the company had decided refocus their current Final Fantasy XV projects resulting in cutting the three DLCs. The episode about Ardyn is still being produced and will release next year in March.

While this might seem ominous for the DLCs to be cancelled, Ofuji reportedly shared that with reallocating efforts, they can now focus even more on the “new AAA title” for Square Enix which has yet to be named.

Final Fantasy XV is currently available to play on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The only episode DLC featuring Ardyn will launch in March 2019.
