New Tribes

The tribes look to have new alliances in this entry, with new “deadly enemies” to encounter. According to the Playstation Blog, the new frontier has plenty to discover such as new customs and lands. But be prepared to unravel mysteries in Forbidden West. From the trailer, it looks like the game is shaping up to be just as story-rich, and full of interesting Tribe lore.

Zero Dawn had plenty of hidden secrets, especially with side quests and past the end of the main game. Hopefully Horizon Forbidden West will have just as many new enigmas to stumble upon. The trailer introduces three clans, first the returning Oseram at the eastern edge of Sundom, full of builders, tinkers and revelers. While the Carja also return, guarding the border.

It also talks about the “red blight” which has taken over the Forbidden West which is threatening the machine life. The Utaru, a newly introduced Tribe are shown singing to “heal the land”. In the west, we get a glimpse of the Tenakth, showing these warriors sparring, made up of three clans. The tribe has found a way to take control of machines to face the Regalla. There is however another rumoured tribe, a much stronger one spoken about in the trailer, “Strangers past the shore, searching for secrets on the very edge of the west.”

In case you missed it Horizon Forbidden West will add plenty of new mechanics to the game, including the way you travel. Aloy returns with the ability to traverse the world by free climbing, swimming, gaining new melee weapon upgrades, as well having to face new machine enemies. Players will also have access to a workbench to upgrade weapons and outfits. Expect a new skill tree with plenty of unlockable perks, giving more customisation for playstyle.

Horizon Forbidden West will release on Playstation 4, and Playstation 5 on February 18th 2022.
