Guerrilla Game has shared new details about Horizon Forbidden West including Aloy’s new capabilities such as climbing, swimming, melee weapon upgrades and more.
Horizon Forbidden West Developers Share New Details on Tools, Weapons and Climbing Mechanics
Developer Guerilla Games have revealed more about upcoming highly anticipated sequel Horizon Forbidden West with new details on Aloy’s capabilities in the latest Playstation Blog post. Aloy will be gaining some new features such as new ways to traverse the world including free climbing, swimming, melee weapons upgrades, as well having to face new machine enemies.
Previously the developer teased some of Aloy’s new exploration with the previous trailers showing her exploring underwater. In the latest footage in a 14 minute gameplay reveal back in March, the post details free climbing.
Guerrilla Games community lead Bo de Vries shares:
Aloy can climb freely on and across huge sections of rocky terrain, even more machine types can be used as mounts; grapple points can be found throughout the environment which allows agile vertical traversal; swimming underwater has opened up a whole new aspect of exploration; and gliding with the Shieldwing provides the ultimate view of the beautiful world of Horizon Forbidden West — not to mention a quick way down from great heights.
Other details shared include traversing rocky surfaces that can be climbable, vaulting over objects, using a Pullcaster tool to grapple launch and lastly the Shieldwing, a glider with a Zelda-esque style of travel.
Players will also have access to a workbench to upgrade weapons and outfits. Expect a new skill tree with plenty of unlockable perks, giving more customisation for playstyle. A new melee feature for her spear includes a Resonator Blast and Valor Surge, designed for those who prefer a melee approach with some perks.
The post also confirms that some faction encounters will include humans who have the ability to mount steeds. While the post did mention swimming, there wasn’t any new details on how this will be implemented.
Playstation 5 owners will also gain haptic feedback which utilises the DualSense wireless controller features. The adaptive triggers will complement trigger tension when Aloy draws her bow.
Safe to say there’s going to be more options to get around compared to Horizon Zero Dawn, enhancing the exploration experience and combat.
Horizon Forbidden West will release on Playstation 4, and Playstation 5 on February 18th 2022.
