Hogwarts Legacy has now been out beaten by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for the UK’s biggest boxed launch so far in 2023.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Storms UK Physical Launch Chart
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has just released last week and has already made some major progress in another kingdom, the UK that is. As we get into the middle of 2023, Zelda has already made the biggest splash when it comes to boxed sales in the UK in its first week.
Hogwarts Legacy was the previous owner of the number one physical launch in the UK but has now been dethroned by Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom which has now surpassed its sales, beating its first-week performance by over half. It has gained the best week-one boxed sales, beating out major games such as Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, FIFA 23 and Mario Kart 8.

These stats by GfK shared some interesting insights including Nintendo UK’s biggest launches, with Tears of the Kingdom in second to the Wii Fit + Balance Board for week one revenue. It’s even beat its predecessor The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for physical week one sales. But it hasn’t quite outdone BOTW just yet for all-time sales, but we’re still pretty early on from its launch.
Recently it was announced Hogwarts Legacy would be delayed for its Switch port, now being pushed to November 14th. This should give more time for players to immerse themselves in Zelda TOTK when it comes to Switch titles.
Return of the Legend
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launched on May 12th bringing the next instalment to Link’s Hyrule adventures. This time Link gains new abilities such as the Ultrahand to combine objects together, making a number of useful vehicles and makeshift bridges. There’s also weapon DIY with Fuse, melding together a weapon and an object to make absurd-looking melee weapons and give arrows further effects.
