Yoko Taro’s Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden Releases September 13th

Coming this September will be the third game by NieR’s franchise creator Yoko Taro. The Beasts of Burden is the next turn-based RPG in the series of games. In this entry, players will have the ability to trap monsters and later utilise their skills in battle.

Also coming with this game is a new standalone story which follows the theme of the animosity between humans and monsters. After a young girl loses her family. She swears revenge on all monsters, which leads to her on a quest. A tale of revenge seems like a fitting basis for an RPG, which I’m sure will be met with some challenges along the way. Will she meet more docile monsters that are not quite as murderous as she once thought?

The Beasts of Burden is a follow-up to Taro’s two previous titles The Forsaken Maiden and The Isle Dragon Roars. Both followed the same tabletop card view, where the game involves flipping over cards to determine your map. Its unique visuals along with beautifully illustrated cards make for quite a different kind of RPG experience, as the whole game is told by cards alone.

Digital Deluxe & Bonuses

The digital deluxe version of Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden comes with the base game plus DLC which includes NieR Reincarnation cross-over items:

  • Decoration of Those in the Cage – New costumes for the game’s heroine and her companions
  • Handbook Pattern – Card reverse patterned after an expert handbook
  • Mama Avatar – Avatar designed after Mama
  • Story Collectors’ Dice – Dice patterned after Mother and Carrier
  • The Cage Board – Board and accessories patterned after the Cage (this DLC does not include dice)
  • Aid Table – Table patterned after the random draw screen
  • Melody of reincarnation – A soundtrack that brings to mind a certain tale of the girl and the monster*
  • Pixel Art Set – Replaces all character and enemy illustrations with pixel art

If you want purchase them separately you can, but the deluxe versions it all together in one neat package.
