In what is referred to as the biggest awards show in gaming, the Golden Joysticks announced their winners for the 2015 awards last night in London and The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne were stars of the show. The Witcher 3 was the big winner, whose 5 awards tied with Grand Theft Auto 5 for the most in the competition. Here are the awards that CD Projekt Red’s massive open world RPG took home:
- Best Storytelling
- Best Visual Design
- Best Gaming Moment: The Bloody Baron Quest
- Studio of the Year: CD Projekt Red
- Ultimate Game of the Year
With the recently released Hearts of Stone expansion and more DLC to come in the future, it’s a great time to be a Witcher dev and fan. The Witcher 3 edged out some longtime industry stalwarts for Game of the Year, including Metal Gear Solid V which has vaulted the relatively new studio to the forefront of gaming consciousness.
Also performing well was Bloodborne, Sony’s crown jewel of the PS4 which so many of us at Fextralife love. The Lovecraftian beast took home 2 awards on the night in the following categories:
- Best Original Game
- Best Playstation Game
Although Bloodborne felt like a sequel to many longtime fans of the From Software Souls series, it is a completely new IP and one that did introduce several departures from the normal Souls formula. It’s never an easy prospect for a new concept to thrive in a land where direct sequels with minimal tweaks are the safest cash-in, so proper applause is due to Hidetaka Miyazaki and From Software for being willing to reinvent the wheel.
RPG’s are fully in a golden age, which has delighted enthusiasts around the world. No longer are we having to scour the bottom shelf or dusty imports section for deep gameplay and deep storytelling, and performing well at major events like the Golden Joysticks is a tremendous boon for the genre. Case in point, Fallout 4 was voted the Most Wanted Game of the show, edging out Dark Souls 3 and currently fans (as well as feverish wiki builders) have their hands full with hits like Divinity Original Sin and Destiny. Let’s hope we continue to see this kind of success and quality for years to come.

Unfortunately, not at the moment. I have so much more to do in Bloodborne and The Witcher 3 that I think I’ll be occupied for a bit.
I totally agree, too bad Metal Gear Solid V came out later. I am having lots of fultoning fun xD

Are you playing Divinity on PS4? We have an ongoing thread, would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks for the great read. Bloodborne, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Dark Souls 3, Divinity, etc. We’re fortunate to have so many amazing games right now. It’s actually really difficult to find the time to play all of them. What a nice problem to have!
