The Surge 2 New Gameplay Footage Released

The latest alpha gameplay video puts The Surge 2 in it’s paces, showing off the sci-fi setting by exploring Jericho city. The video shows the new levels, brutal combat and some brand new elements such as asynchronous multiplayer, as well as drones.

NPCs

Hetenyi also confirms that there are plenty of NPCs to interact with in The Surge 2, it’s up to you if you want to help them out or even kill them to loot their stuff. NPCs are not always be trusted as they can be leading you into some sort of trap. This was not gone into much detail but it sounds like an interesting element to interactions.

Gaining New Gear

During combat while fighting against enemies players can slice off limbs to gain new gear. This is also the way players will gain new weapons, armor and even crafting schematics which can be crafted at the med bay. This offers some interesting customisation options, letting you pick and choose the gear you desire.

Asynchronous Multiplayer

One new feature added to the sequel is the use of messages that can be left by players in the form of graffiti. Just like in Dark Souls and Bloodborne, you can leave a message behind for others to read. These can include helpful tips for other players such as loot or to warn them of upcoming dangers.

So while there is no traditional multiplayer planned, there is a still a way to interact with other players in the game, but just not simultaneously.

Drones

There is also the option to use a combat drones, this has multiple modules for different situations. The footage shows the use of a Starfish EMP option which will helps create a power surge to shutdown scanner gates.

Consumables

There are also new consumable items such as the Bio Sensor which allows you to scout out areas for enemies, while staying hidden. The AI has been improved with in The Surge 2, meaning you’ll have to be on your guard when approaching them.

Bosses

Bosses you meet also have the same concept as smaller enemies, you can aim particular body parts to chop them off. One boss introduced called Delver Echo is a nano tech designed beast that charges with full force. Aiming at armor points will help destroy pieces and create a weak points to deal damage to.

New combat mechanics have also been introduced including directional parries, deemed a “high-risk manoeuvre”.
