In a testament to the game’s commitment to improvement and recent success, the Elder Scrolls Online Director Matt Firor told Polygon that the player base is “pretty much divided 30 percent, give or take” between the 3 platforms of PS4, Xbox One, and PC meaning the 2 console platforms comprise an estimated 60% of the game’s total playerbase.
These figures are telling considering the game released for consoles on June 9th, 2015, more than a year after the April 4th, 2014 release for PC. The amount of players who played the console launch approached 500,000 and exceeded the amount of players for the initial PC launch.

That is not to say that the PC version isn’t popular as Firor went on to say that when the Tamriel Unlimited relaunch that dropped the subscription fee released, PC concurrency tripled. Though they have yet to release exact numbers, they did say that 7 million players had tried the game to date, which excludes beta players and free weekend players. Those are substantial numbers even if split into thirds per platform.
The successes keep coming for the game, as the most recent One Tamriel update went live last week for PC, and is hitting consoles next Tuesday. The major overhaul to the game’s core concepts represents a culmination of years of revisions to remove obstacles to player enjoyment, and opens the entire world up to players of all levels, among others big changes.

The Witches Festival is also in swing for the remainder of the month, bringing a chunk of fall seasonal fun to Tamriel, with future holiday events to follow. Keep checking back often for more updates!
