The Elder Scrolls Online Details Update 12 & One Tamriel

Bethesda has laid out the plans for the upcoming Update 12 for The Elder Scrolls Online, which will feature the new One Tamriel as its cornerstone. Update 12 is free for all players and arrives this coming Monday on the public test server, and will go live to everyone in October.

One Tamriel Features

One Tamriel is the new initiative for the MMO that removes the restrictions to content in the game based on level. Once One Tamriel is live, players will be able to travel anywhere in the game they wish and play the content in any order they’d like even if just starting the game for the first time. This brings the experience more in line with the traditional Elder Scrolls games like Skyrim. The game will scale and balance your character to the content.

The following are further features One Tamriel will bring:

  • Alliance restrictions in open world zones will be lifted, to aid with easier grouping. Restrictions remain intact for PvP zones. Anyone below Champion Level 160 will scale allowing for friends of all levels to group up.
  • Every zone has been redesigned to add bosses and a mix of content for both group and solo players, and every dungeon will offer Normal and Veteran modes.
  • Craglorn is being designed to no longer require group play.
  • Itemization and rewards have been standardized in all zones to bring them more in line with what is found in the DLC. Item sets will be tied to specific zones and dungeons and will scale to your level.
  • Veteran mode dungeons will now guarantee Monster Mask rewards, and new, streamlined Undaunted Pledges will be available to players up to three times per day, offering Monster Masks and other rewards.

Update 12 Changes

Update 12 also brings some changes to the base game not directly related to One Tamriel.

  • Players will now be able to challenge each other in duels!
  • Holiday events are coming and will bring special rewards.
  • Crown Crates are coming towards the end of November. They will cost 400 crowns and will contain a random assortment of consumables. They will also have a chance to contain unique items like cosmetics and mounts which may no longer be available in the Crown Store.

The announcement of One Tamriel made news during E3 and now we get to see some details on what it’s going to change for players. The Gold Edition of the game releases in September, which includes the base game and all the DLC released to date, making it a good entry point in anticipation of One Tamriel. 1. If you get back into it, let me know! I too am on Xbox One and am always looking for new friends to play with.

  2. I really need to get back into this game. So many games require my attention these days ; ^;

  3. I am just excited to be able to go back and play through Ebonheart areas that will be scaled to my level. I didn’t really do many of the quests on my main, as I was trying to level him up ASAP to start running dungeons. Going back now seems pointless, as the enemies and EXP won’t scale to my level, however, with the release of update 12 that all changes. Soooooo happpyy. :bounce:

  4. Craglorn not needing group play will be a godsend for those wanting to finish that area. We had to beg and to come help us open some doors for the simple requirement of having 4 players.

  5. I like the sound of a lot of the changes. Text chat on consoles is already a god send in PvP, and of course for trading.

I am pretty certain this game is gonna go F2P next year so I imagine there’s a lot of preparation work involved for it.

  6. Wow, this must’ve taken a ridiculous amount of work to do.

On the downside, loot crates. Eww…
