Teddy Diefenbach has stepped down from his position as Square Enix Montreal’s creative director. The decision came following the cancellation of an as yet unannounced game.
Back to indie development then?
Teddy Diefenbach – aka Teddy Dief – had previously been a designer and coder for Heart Machine’s Hyper Light Drifter. He joined up with Square Enix Montreal in 2016. Here’s Teddy Dief’s explanation of the decision:
“My team were working on a game that I deeply wish we could have shared with you. But the business strategy of the studio shifted, and our project was sadly no longer compatible.” – Teddy Diefenbach
Teddy Dief was a designer for the excellent action-RPG indie hit, Hyper Light Drifter. This 16-Bit esque classic is well worth a look.
Diefenbach is now heading back to Los Angeles to once again focus on indie game development. It will be interesting to see what this talented developer comes up with next. Watch this space!
Square Enix Montreal were behind one my favourite Lara Croft games: Lara Croft Go.
I love gaming, creative writing, the theatre, anime, watching football & spending time with friends & family. I’m also a bit obsessed with superheroes.
