Creator of 2010’s Deadly Premonition and 2014‘s D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro or SWERY65 of White Owls Studio, has recently opened his Fig Campaign seeking $1.5 million to fund the upcoming murder mystery cat RPG: The Good Life.
The Good Life where you’re in debt!
The game is the first of its kind, a ‘Debt Repayment RPG’ with the theme centered around ‘daily life’ and the goal of having players be as active as possible in whatever they do as well as keeping track of passive parameters such as hunger and sleep. You can view the PAX trailer right above.
It blends photography simulator and role-playing style country town that will have players feel both alienated, yet strangely comfortable.
The town will be filled with fun activities and fascinating people with the promise of a twisting, mysterious story that will leave you captivated.
You play as Naomi, a photographer from New York who finds herself stuck in Rainy Woods, a backwoods town in rural England… For it’s the only way for her to pay off the massive debt she’s accumulated.
The place she’s going is… 5 and a half hours from London… By BUS?! Without internet, cell service, or Starbucks and clubs! Where sheep would graze anywhere. At first glance, it may seem like a perfectly normal country town… However, within this town lurks a bizarre secret.
Debt is paid off by photographing and returning evidence of the towns many bizarre secrets back to Naomi’s client on a daily basis.
Below, you can watch Swery talk about his inspiration for The Good Life:
At the minimum of a $29 pledge, backers will get a digital copy of the game, that is expected by third-quarter 2019. From there, higher pledges will net rewards that would include digital soundtracks, digital concept art and a villager named after a backer in-game.
As for massive fans of the Sweryverse, they can get the chance to have dinner with Swery in an actual English town for a pledge of $15,000.
The Good Life is in a development partnership with Grounding Inc of Crimson Dragon and Camouflaj of RÉPUBLIQUE.
