During Playstation’s State of Play a number of announcements were made which included some major ones such as Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Final Fantasy VII and much more.
State of Play 2019 All Announcements
Today Sony decided to reveal some upcoming games that will be gracing Playstation 4. While Sony in the past has waited until E3 to do this, they won’t be attending this year, deciding to have their own broadcast sharing details on new titles. Here’s a rundown on all announcements that were made during the livestream that ran for just under 12 minutes.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
Kicking off State of Play was none other than Capcom’s Monster Hunter World, with its first major expansion called Iceborne. A short trailer was shown introducing the frosty new world that would be joining hunters later this year. Safe to say there are plenty new beasts to slay including the wyvern Banbaro, the new environment doesn’t disappoint as the snow covered woodland areas are quite amazing to behold. But the trailer also featured new threats impacting the New World. Monster Hunter World Iceborne expansion will be joining Playstation 4 and Xbox One this September 6th with PC being released at a later date.
Adding a cute block-like world to PS4 this summer, Riverbond a “shoot & slash” features some well known character skins such as Juan Aguacate from Guacamelee, Bullet Kin from Enter the Gungeon and Shovel Knight. Riverbond is an adventure that can be taken up in couch co-op or single-player and is full of destructive fun. A hack ‘n’ slash dungeon crawler with discoverable weapons and a heroic campaign to rid the Riverbond world of evil. Riverbond will also be launching on Xbox One and PC.
Predator: Hunting Grounds
We got a brief look at a new project from Sony called Predator: Hunting Grounds, which looks to be a new online asymmetrical shooter featuring the iconic clicking Predator from the movies. The trailer shows a group of army clad hunters scouring the depths of the rainforest while the Predator perches high above the sidelines cloaked in invisibility. Predator Hunting Grounds is being developed by Illfonic in collaboration with Fox, set to release next year in 2020.
A new story trailer was shown featuring the quirky MediEvil, a remake of the original PS1 title of the same name, that will be coming to Playstation 4 on October 25th. This action adventure shows the main character Sir Daniel Fortesque as he battles the terrors that haunt Gallowmere to save the kingdom from his greatest enemy, sorcerer Zarok (who accidentally resurrects the knight). This remake comes with revamped graphics bringing MediEvil in all its 4K glory in time for Halloween.
Away: The Survival Series
Bringing a new point of view to a survival game, Away puts players in the role of a Sugar Glider, giving a truly up close experience to the natural kingdom. In this adventure story players must learn to survive the natural disasters that animals are faced with, adapting to new surroundings and fending for themselves against other predators. It even shows the squirrel hitching a ride on a deer for a faster mode of travel while avoiding the deep river. The series also gains its soundtrack from the same audio director Mike Raznick who has worked on Life and Planet Earth II, which will truly make you feel immersed in the environment.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Leaving the best until last Sony finally unveiled another trailer for the Final Fantasy VII Remake. With it being over three years since Square Enix has shared a new trailer for the highly anticipated remake of the classic game, State of Play ended with the brand new trailer that featured some well known characters. Cloud is back with his iconic Buster Sword along with his band of friends to save the world…hopefully. The trailer didn’t share a release date but does say more news will be coming this June.
