“Impurity” Rune and The League – Bloodborne: The Old Hunters Official Gameplay

With the Bloodborne DLC just around the corner, Sony Computer Entertainment Yasuhiro Kitao showed off upcoming features of The Old Hunter’s DLC and some of the free additions coming with the game.

This video and article contain spoilers and unofficial translations.

  • The League is a confederated faction of Bloodborne, focused on cooperation and assistance. Their leader “Valtr” (ヴァルトール) can be found in the Forbidden Woods, behind the shortcut next to the first lamp of the area. Should you join, new NPCs will be available to be summoned
  • As with all covenants, to be a member of The League and participate in the rankings, you must equip the “Impurity” rune (could also be translated as Hesitation, Pause, etc) – then your co-op activities will add you to world Rankings.
  • In Cathedral Ward, they showed the new locations for “Old Hunters” by summoning “Henrriet” (ヘンリエット) into their world, who is available by using the “Elder Summoning Bell” (not official translation). This new item must be obtained for these NPCs to be available, however, the developers confirmed that the NPCs are not part of the DLC and will be there for everyone who owns the game via a free update
  • The free patch also introduces Japanese voiceovers to the game, allowing Japanese players to listen to the dialogue in their native language, and enjoy the performances of several famous actors and actresses.

you have the answer to how to get the bell already in the text and still ask for it ? :raised brow:
it was already mentioned you get the bell BY JOINING THE COVENANT…. jeez -.-‘
also its “old” News already that you get a new item in the hunters dream later on to join the dlc area….

  2. I think you won’t need to summon a new NPC to reach the new areas, you’ll only need the new item that appears in the Hunter’s Dream :)

I wanted to ask how to get the new bell and about “Old Hunters locations”? We need to summon an NPC to get to the Old Hunter areas or will there a straight forward door/lift/way to get to these areas?

  4. >
NPC summons, you mean? Previously, only Gascoigne and Alfred could be summoned (for Cleric Beast and Blood-Starved Beast, respectively). Now there are more if you have joined the League. Summoning the new ones requires a new, special bell obtained by joining the covenant.

I would assume those clips were from NG+ for demonstration purposes. It’d be a tad disappointing if you went into NG+ and couldn’t summon anything because you weren’t at the woods yet.

Yeah, after a little while of playing, I figured out that they were using pig Latin. I’ve heard it before and know what pig Latin is, so I caught on quickly.

  7. Hang on, I’m confused by the video. Surely you need to kill vicar Amelia first to get to the Forbidden Woods and then join the covenant to get the rune in order to summon special hunters, but they then show a clip where the chap has the special bell and summons a hunter in Cathedral Ward. So is it in NG+ or can we summon in Cathedral Ward when the boss in killed, or maybe they’ve changed things up… :waiting:

  8. Is it bad that I see Vaartor (or whatever his name will be), and I just think “Gee, what will I get for killing him?”

  9. >

That’s crazy. I never picked up that it was Pig Latin they were using. I always just assumed it was gibberish. Ugh, I feel like I have to go back now and play again to hear what I missed.

Wow. That is something interesting to know about the FROM games. Thinking about it, there are a few American made games that use other languages to add some atmosphere to the world, like Rayman Legends which used Pig Latin (not an official language I know, but still).

  11. Didn’t give too much away except for the League itself, which I won’t be joining. Co-op? Meh! Just means more blood dregs for me and more parties to gate-crash!

  12. As TSMP said, all previous souls games have been voiced in English only. I believe there were two reasons for the English dialogue

    1. Budget: Doing voices in English only makes international releases much easier
    2. Atmosphere: Phrases and such sound more mysterious if said in a foreigner language, particularly if the game is medieval or inspired by England or foreigner concepts.

The voice acting for Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 2, and Bloodborne were always in English, but the subs were in the local languages.

Wait wait wait wait wait, so you’re telling me, that Bloodborne, a Japanese made video game, was originally not made with Japanese vocal dialogue. I always thought that Japanese was the first language the game was made in and that the Western versions were just translated from the Japanese version. Are all of the Souls games like this because they take place in a European like setting?

  15. I saw several comments calling the rune “Slow Lake” and the NPC “Arthur” – I’m sticking to the JP reveals unless I see an official translation :)

  16. So eager to theorize about the “Stagnation” rune as oppose to Willem’s evolution.
Will only the Japanese players/owners have access to the Japanese voiceovers? I wouldnt know what they be saying but I think it was be interesting. Hopefully, this is allow others to clarify things “lost in translation”.
