Playstation’s State of Play had a number of trailers featured during the livestream, and also revealed a couple of new RPG titles releasing in 2022.
Sony’s Playstation State of Play Reveals New RPG Titles The DioField Chronicle and Valkyrie Elysium
The State of Play today was packed with titles, quite a few already released and some releasing this month such as Stanger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. But Sony had a couple of new titles to show Playstation fans, two new RPGs expected to release this year. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see more of Final Fantasy XVI but hopefully, these new titles will keep us going until more news is shared.
The DioField Chronicle
First revealed was DioField Chronicle, a strategy RPG from Square Enix which has a familiar art style, not too dissimilar to the likes of Octopath Traveler and the newly released Triangle Strategy. However, DioField Chronicle looks to focus on the war between the Trovelt-Schoevian Empire and the Rowetale Alliance and is a fully 3D experience.

The trailer previewed some of the strategy gameplay and also teased a dragon-like creature joining the battle. The map shows players will travel the world, and take on battles against foes. According to Playstation the game will use a Real-Time Tactical Battle system.
The DioField Chronicle is set to be released in 2022 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
Valkyrie Elysium
The second RPG to be unveiled at the State of Play was Valkyrie Elysium. This fantasy title previewed some of the action gameplay, which showed hack and slash combat and some visuals that are in a sort of Babylon’s Fall-esque style in terms of gameplay, but with less of a paint-brush finish. But the cutscenes show more realistic and quite breathtaking visuals.

Valkyrie Elysium looks to be based on the world of Ragnarok, as mentioned by the narrator. According to the Playstation Blog, the Action-RPG takes place at the End Times, with the last hope relying on a lone Valkyrie entrusted with the last strength of the All-Father. The title will include classic Valkyrie series elements such as the Einherjar, warriors that can be recruited to fight alongside in battle, which could be the mysterious masked figure that appears at the end of the trailer.
From the gameplay it looks to have a focus on sword and shield combat, but with some magic-infused sword abilities.
Valkyrie Elysium will release on PS4 and PS5 in 2022.
