In the first time in its 24 year history, Sony has decided to skip E3 2019. Deciding to neither attend or hold their own press conference at the next E3.
Sony Opts Out of E3 2019
In a statement via Game Informer, Sony reveal that they will neither “activate or hold a press conference around E3”, this also means no Sony exhibit at the event also. Their reason being:
As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community.
PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019.
This isn’t the only event they have decided to forgo, back in September they announced that even their own Playstation Experience which happens yearly was also cancelled this year, but would still be going ahead with their Playstation Awards in Japan. After releasing their major title this year the action-adventure Spider-Man, they are looking towards next year’s lineup:
Now that we have Spider-Man out the door, we’re looking down into 2019 to games like Dreams and Days Gone. But we wouldn’t have enough to bring people all together in some location in North America to have that event. We don’t want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on it. It was a hard decision, but we have determined that this year we will not hold PlayStation Experience.

Based on last year, perhaps they simply want to do it right?
Wait! Maybe they are doing their own conference like bethesda? xD
Well, there go my PS5 announcement fantasies. RIP
