According to Gematsu, Sony has in the past done something similar, reserving “PS4” in 2006 and released the console in 2014. Same goes for “PS5” which was filed in 2006 and will release in 2020.

Recently Sony has announced the release window and name for their next generation console Playstation 5 along with new details of a new controller. It looks like they will continue to name future consoles under the same strategy.

In other Sony news, Death Stranding has been announced to be receiving a PC version in summer 2020 making it not a PS4 exclusive. Also the 25th Playstation Awards will also take place this year on December 9th in Japan.
