As part of their GDC postmortem on the development of brilliant Soulsborne inspired sidescroller Salt & Sanctuary, developer Ska Studios detailed a wonderful explanation of what went into the game’s creation. The post can be found in its entirety on the Playstation Blog and we highly recommend a full read.

The game featured more than 600 weapons, armor pieces, spells, and items and took the 2 person husband and wife team of James and Michelle years to put it all together. To look back at the game now and see what 2 people have accomplished, we can see just how amazing an accomplishment this was, given the quality of the game (we scored it with supremely high marks in our review!).

The post walks us through the process from concept and origins and into coding and tools and the challenges of working with your spouse, being an indie developer and creating a Souls-like while also retaining your own creative identity. It finishes off with a promise to patient Vita owners that the port is still on its way

Definitely worth the reading time to get a peek into the window of game development and the people behind it. Congratulations to Ska Studios on all of their success!

I confess to loving my Vita even if I don’t play it much anymore. I bought it for Persona 4 so anything beyond that was fluff and found some great times. I liked the Uncharted game on it, the Killzone game, as well as all the great indies I got free with Plus and the ability to play Monster Hunter with 2 proper analog sticks.
Love Salt and Sanctuary. Even after it crashed and corrupted my save (Which led me to get God Eater, so it was a win in the end). It truly is an amazing game that will always have a spot in my favorites folder.
The Vita is awesome. It’s reputation for not having games is flat out wrong too, it actually has more than the 3ds. r
Read that yesterday and loved it. Wishing the best for them, great job and the labor of love shines bright.
I also love the shout out to Vita owners. Me and the 3 others really appreciate that
