Frogwares the Ukranian developer behind games such as The Sinking City, are setting up their next project this time a remake called Sherlock Holmes The Awakened. The title is a remake of the 2006 original, which has been re-written and reworked as a continuation of Sherlock Holmes Chapter One which was released last year.

Sherlockian

As you’d expect from a Lovecraftian-inspired story, Sherlock will be dealing with some horrors from the depths, as Sherlock’s Mind Palace starts to fracture, losing his grasp of reality. Watson will also be involved and taken on this harrowing journey into the twisted realms of all things Lovecraft such as cults and ancient prophecies.

This time the developer has taken to Kickstarter in order to fund their remake, and the project has done really well by gaining the funds needed in just 6 hours. The goal was set at $71,000 USD and has already well on its way now standing at around $175,000. It’s smashed through stretch goals including a Metagame where you can play as Doctor Watson.

The Sinking Detective

In case you missed it, we explored the lovecraftian horror The Sinking City, following a private detective who gets wrapped up in an investigation leading him to a strange city with even stranger locals. As he uncovers more clues, his sanity starts to waver. If The Sinking City is anything to go by for Sherlock’s latest adventure, we’re in for some interesting twists of the tentacle kind.

Sherlock Holmes The Awakened will feature a young Sherlock who will take on clues and battle with madness.

From the Kickstarter it looks like The Awakened will be set in a semi-open world and will offer little hand-holding, meaning you’ll have to put your detective hat on in order to make sense of what you see. Piece together the story using clues and “feel like an actual detective”. You will need to interview witnesses and suspects, as well as recreate the sequence of key events.

Sherlock Holmes The Awakened has an estimated delivery date of February 2023 according to the Kickstarter page, coming to PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GoG, Gamesplanet), PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. If you would like to back the project, be sure to do so before September 3rd, which is just 19 days away.
