Rockstar Games released a companion app to accompany their western themed action-adventure Red Dead Redemption 2. According to a recent article by Polygon, the app shares some details that points to a PC release.
Red Dead Redemption 2 App May Reveal Hints of PC Version
The app that is used as a second screen for players to view their in-game map as well as guide, has some lines of code that hints at a possible PC version for Red Dead Redemption 2. While the game was launched on PS4 and Xbox One, Rockstar have been rather quiet about whether or not it would receive a version for Windows.
It was Rockstar Intel that investigated the mobile app and found some interesting strings that contained words such as “PC” and even “Oculus” which could even mean VR somewhere down the line. Below you will find the bits that were shared refering to PC:
The most interesting parameters are so:
PARAM_FrameLimit – A framelimiter.
PARAM_DX11Use8BitTargets – Probably due to Xbox One.
PARAM_HDStreamingInFlight – Present in GTA V (PC)
While none of this confirms the release of a PC version and could very well be leading to a desktop app, rather than a PC release of RDR2. Further lines mention “IOS”, “Android” and then “PC”. The mention of “Oculus” however does seem support this theory of a PC version. The developers have not commented on this found info so far.
