The Playstation Blog revealed today the features that will be a part of the new 3.00 system software beta test. There is no guarantee that the features will remain for the final version, but it is clear this will be a major revision to the PS4’s current functionality. Here are the highlights:
- Online storage capacity increase from 1GB to 10GB for Plus members with a usage meter to track available space.
- YouTube Live connectivity for streaming gameplay to the new YouTube Gaming site.
- Events hub which features activities going down in the games you play most often. Official broadcasts, double XP events, seasonal changes and any other special events.
- Favorite Groups, which will allow you to further organize your Friend lists into groups for easier multiplayer game launching.
- Communities based around shared interests. This one is pretty interesting, players can create a community that features a message board with general discussion, screenshots shared by players, and the ability to join parties / games.
- Sharing video clips to Twitter in 10 second snips.
- Stickers to send during chats. When “u wot m8” isn’t enough for brevity.
- Now Playing / What’s New will be tweaked to let you peek more on what your friends are doing, jump right into parties and groups or launch right into the PS store.
- Live from Playstation has been tweaked to show what’s popular and trending in real time. So when that broadcasted backyard barbecue really pops off you can be in on the ground floor.
- Request to watch gameplay feature will send a message to a friend playing a game asking if you can watch. No word on whether Tinder swipe right functionality will be integrated with the messages.
A ton of new features for a software update, very much geared towards increasing the social infrastructure both within the PSN and with social media. It will be interesting to see what makes the final cut. The beta starts today, if you’re one of the brave testers please share your experiences with us in the comments.

Oh man. The events hub will be perfect for Warframe. Also the communities thing, and customizable friends list. Those features will definitely make life easier.
Hhhmm i see they’re still holding out on allowing to anonymously take over another users PS4 camera, they still have not gotten back to me on that request. Plus it looks like “Capa’s Yoga and jazz hands happy hour” is moving from twitch to youtube now.
Like the groups function, it can be a pain scrolling through everyone to find out who’s playing what. One thing they do need tho is the ability to enter an open(non private party) party without broadcasting it to everyone.
Youtube streaming. Looking forward to that one! And finally more online storage. With these games requiring ridiculously more amount of space to save game data, its about time Sony gave us more.
Good post.
This is pretty nice! I’m excited for this update, since we wanna try out Youtube Gaming. Fun times ahead!
