PS Plus games for February leaked?

The first batch of February’s PS Plus games for 2018 may have leaked already. An image appeared online last night that seems to show which two PS4 games will be free in February. The image appeared on the PlayStation Plus Reddit page.

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin and Far Cry 4

The image shows that the free games for February will be Far Cry 4, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin and PlayLink title That’s You. Disclaimer: As with any leak, it’s not possible to say for certain if these games will be included. However, there have been times when these kind of leaks have been accurate.

Would anybody like to have a free copy of Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin?

Opinion is divided on whether this leak is legitimate. I’m sceptical about this one. Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin and Far Cry 4 would be two very big titles to give away, so take it with a pinch of salt.

I’m unsure if that suit is the most practical thing to wear atop a mountain. I hope he’s wearing thermals.

  1. Marketing wise this would make huge sense for Sony. Buy the remastered Dark Souls, and when you finished you can follow it up with DS2:SotFS. Ideally they would include a patch for PS4 Pro users to get a resolution boost (vanilla PS4 already getting 60fps they can’t boost the framerate, though they could solidify it a bit, as, if memory serves, it did have the occasional modest drop into the 50s).

It’s a similar deal with Far Cry 4, though the ordering is different (and the games have little to do with each other plot-wise, even if the mechanics are similar). Download FC4, finish it and you’re just in time for FC5.

One thing that makes me suspicious, though, is the fact that DS remastered is releasing in May. I wouldn’t be surprised if both these games end up in PS Plus, but DS2 ends up in March or April. At least that makes more sense to me marketing wise.

If this does happpen, I suspect it might signal a new strategy of bringing big games to PS Plus that are part of the same series as big upcoming games, especially if those games are cross-platform. It pulls the trifecta of promoting the PS Plus service, the new game (with its licensing fee), and the PS4 platform as a prefered system for multi-platform series.

  2. I think I’ve seen “That’s Me” up on PSN for a while, too. I wouldn’t be surprised if either of those was free on February, but both at once is a little suspect.

Then again, they did do a good month late last year, with MGSV.

  3. Ah. Thanks, skarekrow13. That was the game I was least interested in. I haven’t purchased Far Cry 4 yet so I kind of wanted the rumour to be true but I had my doubts.

  4. If you want more reason to be cautious on this, That’s You would cause a lot of fan backlash unless it’s a “bonus” game. It was already free for Plus members in the fall.
