Pokemon Sword and Shield Sells Over 6 Million Units Launch Weekend

Gaining a rather successful launch weekend, Pokemon Sword and Shield gains over 6 million units sold with 2 million of those units being North America. This makes Pokemon Sword and Shield the highest-grossing North American launch in the franchise and also one of the fastest-selling Nintendo Switch games of all time.

If you compare it to the launch of Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon Let’s Go, Eevee! last year in the same period of time, it is double. Last year’s Pokemon games are placed currently at the fifth spot for best-selling Nintendo Switch titles with 11.28 million copies. Pokemon Sword and Shield has taken the eighth spot for best-selling first party Nintendo Switch games, moving it ahead of major titles such as New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Super Mario Maker 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. The total sales for the Pokemon franchise now stands at over 246 million units.
