Pokemon Sword and Shield First Expansion Releases June 17th

Pokemon Sword and Shield: The Isle of Armor will be releasing on June 17th, adding a number of new places to explore and new Pokemon (or rather old and new) to catch.

A new trailer featuring the upcoming expansions which are included in the expansion pass was released. The next DLC The Crown Tundra will be releasing later this year in fall. It also showed a number of new Legendary Pokemon, Gigantamax forms and Galarian forms.

Gigantamax forms include Venusaur and Blastoise, who get their own new shell and venus flower look. Gigantamax Venusaur gets G-Max Vine Lash, dealing damage four more turns if the opponent isn’t a grass-type. Then there is Gigantamax Blastoise who gets a G-Max Cannonade move, dealing damage for four more turns if the opponenet is not a water-type.

There were also the reveals for The Crown Tundra expansion for Galarian forms, Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres. Galaran Articuno gets a psychic type move called Freezing Glare. Galarian Zapdos gets a fighting-type mode Thunderous Kick. While Galarian Moltres gets Fiery Wrath, a dark type move.

Slowbro will be getting a Galarian form which is poison and psychic type. The Shellder that bites this poor Galarian Slowbro’s arm actually equips it with a gun, that shoots poison at opponents.

Kubfu and Urshifu were announced to be coming to The Isle of Armor. Urshifu has two forms, single strike and rapid strike, plys their own move and G-Max Moves which was explained by The Pokemon Company:

A Single Strike Style Urshifu that has followed the path of darkness can unleash a single, severe blow — a signature move known as Wicked Blow. This move always results in a critical hit, allowing Urshifu to attack while ignoring the target’s stat changes. A Rapid Strike Style Urshifu that has followed the path of water can unleash a flowing three-hit combo—a signature move known as Surging Strikes. This move always results in critical hits, allowing Urshifu to attack while ignoring the target’s stat changes.

Finally some brand new Legendary Pokemon were revealed, adding to the “Regi” family in The Crown Tundra. Regileki an electric type has a special move of Thunder Cage. Regidrago is a dragon-type gaining a special move called Dragon Energy.

New Features – The Isle of Armor

Along with new Pokemon comes some new features. Cram-o-matic which allows players to recycle four items to combine them into a new item. These can include Poke Ball, PP Ups and much more, including a chance to create rare items. Tutor Moves adds the option for Pokemon to learn in exchange for Armorite Ore. There is also Max Soup, a special dish made from rare ingredients that can be gathered on The Isle of Armor. Pokemon with hidden potential that drink this soup, and will become capable of Gigantamaxing.

The Pokemon Company also announced that a new transfer bonus has begun for Pokemon Home starting June 2nd. Trainers can transfer Pokemon from Sword and Shield to their Pokemon Home on the Nintendo Switch, gaining a Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble with Hidden Abilities, which will be sent as Mystery Gifts.
