New shiny Pokémon & a Lunar New Year Event in Pokémon Go

There is a new Lunar New Year event in Pokémon Go to celebrate the Chinese New Year. As it’s the Year of the Dog, it involves catching dog-based Pokémon. They’ve also added another Shiny Pokémon.

“Feeling lucky? Starting today until February 17, Trainers who catch a Poochyena, Growlithe, Snubbull, Eevee, or Electrike will receive bonus Stardust. Happy LunarNewYear!” – Pokemon Go Twitter

Pokémon Go Lunar New Year Event

The Lunar New Year event goes live today. In celebration of it being the Year of the Dog, Pokémon Go is offering increased Stardust when you catch a dog-related Pokémon. The dogs included in the event are Growlithe (Fire), Electrike (Electric), Snubbull (Fairy), Poochyena (Dark) and Eevee. The surprise inclusion on the list is Eevee, as it’s more of a fox than a dog. Also, they’ve opted to leave out Hounour (Dark), which is actually a dog. Yes, he was included in the Halloween event last year but still…it’s a Year of the Dog event and they chose a fox instead of a dog?

Eevee is the surprise inclusion in Pokemon Go’s Year of the Dog Lunar Event. Yes, a fox is a member of the Canidae family as are dogs but still…

Niantic also confirmed that a new shiny type Pokémon has been added to Pokémon Go – a shiny Poochyena (which means you’ll be able to get a shiny Mightyena when you evolve it).

The star of the show this time is Poochyena, as you’ll now be able to catch a Shiny version of it.

If you haven’t already caught the Lovedisc from the Valentine’s Day event, today is your last day to do so. The event was supposed to already be finished but Niantic extended it due to some login issues.

Are you still trying to catch ’em all or have you stopped playing Pokémon Go now? Or were you one of the few people on the planet who managed to resist playing it at all when it was released?
