Playstation 5 Reaches 32.1 Million in Shipments

Sony has released their financial results for the year ending on December 31st 2022 with a massive milestone. Playstation 5 has now amounted to 32.1 million shipments for this past fiscal year. Other interesting stats include Playstation Plus members as of December 31st have decreased by 1.6 million compared to the previous year, now standing at 46.4 million.

But the Playstation Network is still quite active with 112 million monthly users. This is up by 1 million compared to the previous fiscal year. PS5 and PS4 title sales are down, having sold 86.5 million which is a decrease of 6.2 million. However first-party titles are on the up having sold 20.8 million units, a rise of 9.5 million compared to the previous year. One major PS5 title to hit last year was God of War Ragnarok which scooped up a bunch of awards in 2022.

A Busy Year Ahead for PS5

This year will be indeed a busy year for Playstation 5, especially for exclusives such as Final Fantasy XVI. There are rumours that this title may hit other platforms later on, but for now, Yoshi-P assures there doesn’t seem to plan for a PC release. VR Exclusive Horizon Call of the Mountain for sure will capture virtual adventurers’ hearts and the continued Aloy journey in the Burning Shores DLC. Spidey fans also have Spider-Man 2 to look forward to in fall of this year.

PS5 players can look forward to Final Fantasy XVI which is an exclusive upon release.

There are of course a number of non-PS5 exclusives which also be coming to the console as well as other platforms such as Hogwarts Legacy in just a few days, which has its own PS5 exclusive quest. Then there’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage the next major title in the series, the Resident Evil 4 Remake and many more. There’s also a rumoured sci-fi RPG in the works as Sony IP but nothing solid on that one yet.
