The next big expansion for the Action-RPG Path of Exile: Crucible will be coming to PC and Mac on April 7th. It will later join Playstation and Xbox on April 12th. Crucible will be adding new features such as the Crucible Challenge League, Atlas Gateways, an updated Passive Skill Tree, new Vaal skills and much more.

A Whole New League

The expansion kicks off a new league this time called the Crucible Challenge League which will “push the boundaries” of the game’s item system. Players will be able to augment weapons with their own skill trees, keeping the playstyle of the character in mind.

Unlocking Crucible skills will require experience from encounters, adding powerful effects. Pick a weapon to improve by channelling it in an ancient forge. Channelling will cause molten monsters to meld into larger and more ferocious fiends.

There’s a great balance of risk and reward as levelling up your weapon will mean a more powerful weapon but at the cost of more of a risk to fail at the challenge at hand. The exclusive endgame area The Forge of Titans will allow players to combine these skill trees to create weapons of extensive power.

New Additions in Crucible

In the Path of Exile: Crucible new Atlas Gateways will be available. These act as nodes that players to can travel between two locations in the Atlas Passive Tree. These will ease the number of travel points needed.

The return of two older league mechanics, Breach and Abyss has gotten refreshed. A reduction in clutter and improved gameplay, meaning a more streamlined experience and better focus on rewards. These aren’t the only reworks. Roughly half of the Masteries have more effect, letting players shake up their builds.

Players can augment and improve their original skills in the Vaal skill system. This means getting boosts when they need, especially when facing bosses or mitigating burst damage. The Saboteur and Pathfinder Ascendancy classes have been reworked gaining new and exciting tools for more of an impact. Further improvements have been made to the Ruthless game mode, with the return of Eternal orbs and introducing a Ruthless-specific set of challenges.

Previously GGG released a roadmap outlining what Path of Exile fans can expect out of 2023.
