Online-Shooter “Battleborn” Ceasing Development!

Due to strong competition from popular online-shooter Overwatch  and a dwindling player base, developer Gearbox Software has decided to cease  any ongoing development for their online first-person shooter, Battleborn.

Battleborn – Final Battleplan

The news was announced in a heartfelt message on their forums by Randy Varnell aka “Jythri”, who broke the news and addressed the situation and future for the title.

“I’ve been working on Battleborn  nearly exclusively since 2012, and in some ways, that work stretches back to 2009 for me. It’s been a long labor of love with many of my good friends at Gearbox, and I’m proud to have shared that journey with you, our community. Your spirit and loyalty have been a constant inspiration to the team at Gearbox.”

Gearbox will stop releasing content in the future for their MOBA-like online shooter once its’ Fall Update rolls out.

“there will be no more Battleplans and there is currently no planned content after the Fall Update. Details of any future changes or news will be made on our forums or through social media, so keep your radars on.”

To thank the community, Gearbox is giving away a free skin code for Deande that is redeemable until October 2. The code can be found at the bottom of the forum post.

“As thanks to everyone who tuned in to the Battleplan over the last year, we’ve got a SHiFT code for Deande’s “Intelligence” skin.”

Players will still be able to play Battleborn ”for the foreseeable future” and the game will be maintained by a small team.

  1. LostMyHeadache ain’t going to be happy about this. We haven’t talked in a while, but he was obessed with Battleborn last we talked. He’s probably getting hyped about Borderlands 3 now though.

  2. Aww, that sucks. Such are the dangers of competing against Blizzard, I suppose.

Blizz could really use some more competition, IMO. They’ve been getting a little samey over the last few years.
