No Cross-Platform Play For Dark Souls: Remastered

It has been confirmed by Bandai Namco that Dark Souls: Remastered won’t feature cross-platform play. So if you were hoping to play it on the Nintendo Switch, it may be time to find yourself some more Switch-owning friends.

No cross-platform play for Dark Souls: Remastered

Bandai Namco has confirmed that Dark Souls: Remastered won’t feature cross-platform play. The news may come as a slight disappointment for Dark Souls players hoping to enjoy it with their friends who own a different type of console.

“Goodbye then. Be safe, friend. Don’t you dare go Hollow.” – Laurentius of the Great Swamp, Dark Souls

Will you be leaving behind helpful messages or do you prefer to lure players into traps instead?

The reason that it isn’t included may partly be due to the difference in performance levels between the three consoles. However, it is worthwhile noting that no Dark Souls game currently supports cross-platform play. Therefore, the official confirmation probably belongs in the “Well, duh” category.

The pathway ahead leads to cross-platform co-operation, therefore these doors will never be opened. What? You opened them? Well, you’re still not having cross-platform play.

Are you looking forward to a time when cross-platform play is more commonplace and we can all enjoy/endure Dark Souls together? Or do you prefer to suffer in isolation?

  1. Why would they sell the “remastered” version on the Switch? Isn’t the original more appropriate given the weakness of the console? That’s what Bethesda decided when choosing the original, 32-bit Skyrim for the Switch instead of the 64-bit ” special edition”.

If it can run on the Switch I don’t have high hopes for the “remaster” being much of an improvement on PC especially when compared to the modded version on PC. Then again, the unmodded version of Dark Souls on PC was basically broken. Maybe they can market it as: “Now, for a mere $60 you can make the game you bought years ago work without DSFix!”

Or they could do what Bethesda did and make it a free download for people who own the PC version. Otherwise, here’s the big question: Will original PC Dark Souls owners be able to play with “remastered” Dark Souls owners? If not then that really will be a mess.
