At Sony’s pre-Tokyo Game Show Conference today, publisher Koei Tecmo announced that Nioh will release globally on February 9th, 2017 for the PS4.
Team Ninja’s action RPG, which takes influence from Onimusha, Dark Souls, and Ninja Gaiden, recently finished a beta period for players following a very popular alpha demo. The game is set in the Sengoku period of Japan, around 1600 AD, when there were many warring states, you play as a blonde-haired protagonist named William Adams, who was historically the first western Samurai.

The demo’s stages featured brutal gameplay and punishing foes, balanced with a very deep combat system that makes use of stances and skills to amplify your effectiveness with weapons and armor. Online play is present through cooperative summoning of other players as well as a unique twist on online competitive play in which players can fight the NPC shadows of fallen players, called Revenants. Players who completed the demos earned access to some upcoming DLC.
We’ve been covering the game from the beginning, and recently featured an in depth E3 interview with director Fumihiko Yasuda. Check back for more updates leading up to the release date. Thoughts on the announcment? Let us know in the comments.

Kinda sad that the game was delayed, was really hoping for a 2016 release… But it does give more time to the Devs to really polish the game, so at least that… Dark Souls DLC will have to do till then
Fixed, I’m usually pretty good with proofing before publishing but hadn’t had my coffee yet.
Cannot wait for this! Loved the Alpha and the Beta versions!
Okay, I hate to be THAT guy, but there article needs correction to its grammar. Currently it reads:
“…online competitive play in which players can fight the NPC shadows of falling players”
Correctly it should read as:
“online competitive play in which players can fight the NPC shadows of fallen players”
I just can’t wait to play it without a time limit
Can’t wait to preorder this.
