NieR Replicant Launches April 24th 2021

Square Enix held a “NieR TGS 2020 Special Programming” broadcast during the digital Tokyo Game Show 2020, revealing some more details about NieR Replicant ver. 1.22474487139…, which is the remaster version. One big detail to drop is that it will be releasing on April 22nd 2021 in Japan, then on April 24th worldwide for PS4, Xbox One and Steam.

Voice actors Nobuhiko Okamoto who voiced the main character, Ryoko Shiraishi who voiced Devola/Popola, and Mai Kadowaki who voiced Emil. Ai Nonaka (Yonah), will reprise their roles. They share messages to fans expressing how they are happy to be returning to these roles a decade later.

The livestream also features some gameplay for the upcoming NieR Replicant remaster, which can be seen at around minute 21:00:

The gameplay shows some of the combat out in the open-world, including some of the weapons players can get their hands on and showed what parrying will look like.

The livestream didn’t give much away in terms of changes to story but what we do know is the remaster is being developed by Toylogic alongside Square Enix as well as NieR series developer Platinum Games. As for what this remaster holds for Replicant, Square Enix producer Yusuke Saito previously describes it as a “version up” opposed to a remake or remaster. The new version is set to include fully voiced lines, new content, new music compositions by the original composer Keiichi Okabe and the possibility of a new ending.

The livestream also showed the upcoming mobile RPG game NieR Reincarnation which has now been officially announced to be coming west, pre-registration will start on September 24th with pre-register bonuses.

Pre-Order Editions

The game will release with two different cover artwork, one by Akihiko Yoshida and one by Koda Kazuma. Both versions will be available worldwide, as a main cover or as a reversible cover.

So far a limited edition has been announced for Japan, however there will be some different details for North America and Europe. There are now listing on the official Square Enix US website that shows the Standard Edition for $59.99 and White Snow Edition for $159.99.
