Square Enix announced today that 2 games that are no strangers around these parts: Nier: Automata and Final Fantasy XIV contributed to a strong performance for the publisher this past quarter.
Nier: Automata and Final Fantasy XIV Strong Sales Boost Square Enix
They had the following to say about the games:
In the Digital Entertainment segment…strong download sales of previously released catalogue titles such as “NieR:Automata,” have resulted in an increase of operating income in the area of console games, compared to the prior fiscal year.
In the area of massively multiplayer online role playing games, revenues from sales of the latest expansion disk of “FINAL FANTASY XIV” and increase of number of monthly subscribers boosted by the expansion resulted in an increase of net sale and operating income, compared to the prior fiscal year.
Nier: Automata was a surprise hit that sold incredibly well for the publisher, and rightfully so as it is a great game that harkens back to some classic gaming concepts, full of secrets and hidden endings. You can read our thoughts on the innovative action RPG in our full review.
Final Fantasy XIV similarly shook some life into their playerbase with a well received Stormblood expansion, so it’s no surprise that the monthly subscriber base has improved. All in all not a bad showing for 2 titles that have been under people’s radar, and Square Enix was in the black, thanks in part to them.
