New World Aeternum Void Gauntlet Build 2024 -Overview and Strategy

The Void Gauntlet is one of only two weapons in New World that deals Void damage, the other being the Great Axe. However, the Void Gauntlet exclusively deals Void damage, which is highly effective against Ancients but performs poorly against the Lostโ€”a common enemy group early in the game. As a result, its damage output will be weaker early on but will improve as you encounter tougher enemies later.

One of its standout features is that Heavy Attacks not only pierce through targets, hitting multiple enemies, but also heal you for 20% of the weapon damage. Keep in mind, though, you can only heal once per Heavy Attack, regardless of how many enemies are hit. Additionally, holding Block with the Void Gauntlet allows you to convert health into mana, which is incredibly useful for mana-hungry builds that use other mana-based weapons like the Ice Gauntlet, Fire Staff, or Life Staff, as they all share the same mana pool.

A clever pairing for this weapon is the Flail and Shield, which also scales with Focus. With this combination, you can regain mana through the Void Gauntlet at the cost of health, then swap to the Flail and Shield to heal yourself with its mana-free abilities. This creates a self-sustaining loop of healing and mana regeneration.

The Void Gauntlet’s Light and Heavy Attacks do not cost mana, so you can always rely on them even when you’re low, though your abilities will still require mana. This makes it a flexible option for either primary or secondary use in any build that utilizes mana frequently.

New World Aeternum Void Gauntlet Pros:

  • Works well at both range and in melee combat.
  • Void damage is effective against most enemies, especially Ancients.
  • Easy mana restoration via health conversion.
  • Heals you while attacking.

New World Aeternum Void Gauntlet Cons:

  • Lower base damage compared to other weapons.
  • Void damage is ineffective early in the game against the Lost.

Annihilation Skill Tree

The Void Gauntlet features two distinct skill trees: Annihilation, which focuses on increasing damage and landing critical hits, and Decay, which emphasizes debuffing enemies, dealing damage over time, and self-healing.

Petrifying Scream

Starting with Annihilation, the first ability is Petrifying Scream, a short-range wave attack that deals light damage and roots enemies in place. This is most effective when used against groups of enemies, making it useful in PvE scenarios, but especially potent in PvP. In large-scale battles, you can root multiple players in place, allowing your teammates to quickly eliminate them. Upgrading this skill increases the root duration against low-health enemies and grants Fortify when hitting multiple targets, boosting your defense.

Void Blade

Next is Void Blade, which transforms your Void Gauntlet into a melee weapon, allowing you to perform Light and Heavy Attacks. The Light Attack deals 100% damage, while the Heavy Attack does 150% damage. This ability provides a solid melee option if you’re using primarily ranged weapons, like the Ice Gauntlet, Fire Staff, or Life Staff. Additionally, each hit applies Disintegrate, dealing 5% weapon damage per second and reducing the target’s armor. Upgrades to this ability grant Fortify, increase critical damage, and provide healing based on the number of Disintegrate stacks.

Oblivion

The third ability is Oblivion, which creates an AoE field around you that damages enemies and empowers allies, increasing both your damage and theirs. This skill shines in dungeons or expeditions, especially during boss fights or trash pulls, by boosting your team’s offensive capabilities. In PvP, it offers similar benefits when fighting multiple enemies. Upgrading Oblivion weakens enemies within the area, reducing their damage, and also increases stamina regeneration for allies by 25%.

The Annihilation capstone skill, Voidcaller, activates after you’ve cast six Void Gauntlet abilities, creating an aura around you that deals damage to enemies and heals allies within range for five seconds. The healing scales with Focus, making this a strong option for Focus-based builds. This ability is particularly useful in dungeons or group PvP, where multiple friendlies are likely to be nearby, allowing you to deal damage and heal your team simultaneously.

Decay Skill Tree

The Decay skill tree in the Void Gauntlet focuses on debuffing enemies, healing, and dealing damage over time.

Orb of Decay

The first ability in this tree is Orb of Decay, which launches an unblockable orb that applies Disintegrate, dealing damage over time and reducing the target’s armor. Against AI-controlled enemies, this orb deals extra damage. When the orb returns, it heals you and your allies for five seconds. This dual-purpose abilityโ€”dealing damage and healingโ€”cannot be blocked, which is especially useful in PvP where shields are common. Upgrading Orb of Decay restores mana for each enemy hit, slows the target, and allows you to detonate the orb for either increased damage or healing depending on its position.

Baleful Tether

The next ability, Baleful Tether, links you to an enemy with a projectile, empowering you and weakening them as long as you stay within range. This is great for PvE against tough bosses or for 1v1 PvP fights, as you can repeatedly use it on the same enemy. Upgrading Baleful Tether reduces the cooldowns of your other Void Gauntlet skills with each hit on the tethered enemy, boosts mana regeneration by 200%, and heals you when the tether ends.

Essence Rupture

The final active skill is Essence Rupture, which deals damage to the target while allowing any player who hits the target to heal for 20% of the damage dealt for 10 seconds. This is particularly useful in dungeons, where you can throw it on a boss to help your team heal through their attacks, or in PvP, where it aids in self-healing during fights. Upgrades to Essence Rupture grant 15 stamina per hit to allies and heal nearby allies if the target dies or the effect ends.

The capstone ability for the Decay tree is Glimpse the Void, which grants a stack of Void Essence with each Void Gauntlet ability used. After accumulating four stacks, a successful heavy attack resets all your Void Gauntlet cooldowns. To maximize this capstoneโ€™s effectiveness, you should aim to complete two full rotations of your abilities before triggering the heavy attack, as using it too early will waste the reset. This capstone is ideal for solo questing or 1v1 PvP, as it focuses on resetting your skills rather than affecting multiple enemies or allies like the Annihilation capstone.

New World Aeternum – Void Gauntlet Build Weapons & Armor

As we lightly touched on previously, your choice of weapons and armor with the Void Gauntlet depends largely on whether you’re focusing on Intelligence or Focus. If you’re going more into Focus, pairing the Void Gauntlet with the Life Staff or Flail and Shield makes sense. The Life Staff offers easy healing and mana recovery, while the Flail and Shield lets you use abilities without needing mana, providing a good backup when you’re running low.

New World Void Gauntlet Build - Stats

On the other hand, if you’re focusing on Intelligence, pairing it with weapons like the Fire Staff or Ice Gauntlet means you’ll share a mana pool, leading to more frequent mana management and possibly a heavier reliance on healing abilities or potions.

When it comes to armor, the type you wear should align with your combat style. Light Armor is ideal for ranged play since it boosts your damage, while Medium or Heavy Armor is better suited for melee combat. If youโ€™re planning to use the Void Gauntletโ€™s melee attacks often, Medium Armor gives a good balance of protection and damage, while Heavy Armor is best if you want maximum defense but can accept lower damage output. For full-range combat, stick with Light Armor to maximize damage while staying out of harm’s way.
