New World Fire Staff Build 2024 – Overview and Strategy

To begin this New World Fire Staff Build 2024, one thing to keep in mind with the Fire Staff is that light and heavy attacks do NOT consume mana, but spells or abilities you cast do. Early on, this can cause some mana issues, especially if you’re frequently casting spells. Itโ€™s a good idea to stock up on or craft mana potions and also take Spell Focus, in the Fire Mage weapon tree that help with mana management. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself waiting for mana to recharge between fights, slowing down your progress.

The Fire Staff is an AoE-focused weapon, meaning its abilities are designed to hit multiple targets. This makes it less ideal when you’re trying to pick off single targets during quests, as it can easily pull more enemies than you can handle. However, it shines in situations with lots of enemies, like when you group up a bunch of mobs during questing, in dungeons, or in larger-scale PvP where players are bunched together. It’s great for those situations, but not as efficient in one-on-one combat. The main reason is that using AoE spells to hit a single target isnโ€™t mana-efficient, as theyโ€™re designed to hit multiple enemies, and you’ll eventually run out of mana in longer fights. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s not that it performs badly against single enemies, it just performs way better against groups. The addition of lock-on in New World Aeternum also drastically helps the Fire Staff land its spells and light and heavy attacks.

New World Aeternum Fire Staff Pros:

  • High burst damage
  • Great against multiple enemies
  • Excels at applying damage over time
  • Landing casted skills is easier with the lock-on feature

New World Aeternum Fire Staff Cons:

  • Needs mana management early on
  • Vulnerable to interruptions without the proper passives
  • Not as good as some weapons in one-on-one scenarios

Fire Mage Skill Tree

Beginning with New World Fire Staff Build 2024; Fire Staff skills focus on powerful, fire-based AoE attacks, making them ideal for handling groups of enemies and dealing with mobs. They also excel at applying debuffs, adding extra utility while dishing out significant damage. The Fire Mage skill tree focuses on casting ranged abilities dealing crits and mana management while the Pyromancer skill tree utilizes abilities that are for enemies closer to you. It focuses on the debuffs that cause Damage Over Time.

Pillar of Fire

Now let’s dive into the Fire Mage skill tree, starting with Pillar of Fire. This ability deals AoE damage in a targeted area. With the new lock-on feature, aiming Pillar of Fire will be easier, but you still need to watch out for the tricky depth perception. Also, it has a high mana cost. Progressing this skill line allows you to deal more damage based on the smolder stacks the enemy has as well as recover 15% of your max mana per hit.

Meteor Shower

Next is Meteor Shower, a channeled ability that deals consistent damage over time by raining fire down in a 4.5m radius. Since itโ€™s a channel, you can be interrupted by enemy attacks, so you’ll want to use it in situations where you’re safe from harmโ€”like standing on higher ground where enemies canโ€™t reach you or hanging back in a dungeon while your tank holds aggro. Itโ€™s also useful in PvP when enemies are grouped up. Itโ€™s not great for solo questing unless your damage is high enough to quickly wipe out enemies before they interrupt you. Progressing this skill line grants you grit, which prevents you from being staggered while channeling as well as inflicting disease on enemies hit, reducing their healing rate.

Fireball

Then there’s Fireball, using this skill is easier now with the lock-on feature.. Fireball deals AoE damage and leaves a burning effect on the ground, damaging anything that stays in it. The best way to use it is to wait until enemies are close, then throw it at their feet so they remain in the burning area. If you throw it from a distance, theyโ€™ll likely run out of the burn zone, wasting a lot of the abilityโ€™s potential. In dungeons, Fireball works well when you throw it into a group of enemies focused on your tank, and in PvP, itโ€™s best used when opponents are grouped up or right on top of you. Progressing this skill inflicts enemies hit with Smolder, dealing damage-over-time, while restoring 10% of your max mana and reducing your Fire Staff cooldowns.

Runes of Helios

The capstone ability in this tree, Runes of Helios, buffs you with Empower and significantly boosts your damage while you stand still, but itโ€™s tough to remain stationary during regular questing or PvP, where you need to stay mobile to avoid attacks. Itโ€™s mostly useful in dungeons during boss fights when you have time to plant yourself and unleash damage. If you’re focusing on dungeons, this might be a good pick; otherwise, it’s better to choose another option.

Pyromancer Skill Tree

Incinerate

Now for the Pyromancer skill tree. The first ability is Incinerate, a fast AoE attack that sets enemies around you on fire. It also inflicts the enemy with a Smolder debuff, dealing damage every half second. It also grants you grit while casting, preventing you from being staggered. Itโ€™s a great skill, especially for PvP, as you can pull multiple enemies, hit them with Incinerate, and deal solid damage while continuously chipping away at their health. Once upgraded, it hits twice, making it even more effective. Early on, youโ€™ll rely on light attacks since many spells donโ€™t hit their full potential until upgraded. Progressing this skill line allows you to cleanse a debuff and gives you Empower.

Flamethrower

Next is Flamethrower, which channels a stream of fire in front of you. It sets enemies on fire and deals damage over time, but itโ€™s not very mana-efficient. Like Incinerate, it also inflicts the enemy with a Smolder debuff. It drains a lot of mana for the damage it deals, so itโ€™s not ideal for questing or tackling one or two enemies. Itโ€™s more useful in dungeons or PvP when you can hit several enemies at once, but since itโ€™s a channel, it can be interrupted by attacks, so use it carefully. Progressing this skill line increases the range and damage of the flamethrower.

Burnout

The last ability is Burnout, a mobility skill that lets you dash forward, setting enemies in your path on fire. Enemies hit with this skill also receive the Smolder debuff. Itโ€™s excellent for both mobility and damage, making it useful for any build. Pair it with a weapon like the rapier and go for an intelligence build, and youโ€™ll have Burnout for mobility and the rapierโ€™s Fleche ability for even more movement. This allows you to close the gap on enemies or escape quickly. Burnout is a fantastic ability for resetting in combat, catching up to targets, or getting away. Itโ€™s easily one of the best abilities in this tree and across different weapon trees.

Backdraft

The capstone ability in this skill tree, Backdraft, triggers an explosion if you hit an enemy with three stacks of Smolder using a heavy attack. This consumes all Smolder stacks and covers a 2m radius. This ability is highly useful for both PvP and PvE, considering how easy it is to inflict enemies with Smolder and hit them with a heavy attack, especially now that you can lock-on. Overall, I feel that this is the superior capstone.

There are several solid secondary weapon options to pair with the Fire Staff. The Rapier is a great choice for mobility and melee combat, while the musket offers excellent long-range damage, complementing the mid- and short-range capabilities of the fire staff. The Ice Gauntlet is another strong option if you want to add more AoE abilities or slow down enemies. You can layer AoE spells one after another, creating a powerful crowd control combination. These are the primary weapons to consider if you prefer a hybrid playstyle. For melee, the rapier is your best bet, so keep that in mind when choosing your secondary weapon.

One important point is that some weapons come with gem slots, allowing you to socket specific gems that make them scale with Intelligence. This opens up more flexibility in your weapon choices. For example, you could pair a Great Axe with your Fire Staff by slotting a gem to make it scale with Intelligence. While it wonโ€™t perform as well as a pure Strength build on a great axe, it does give you the option to mix weapons that typically donโ€™t align with your stat build.

When it comes to armor, light or medium is the way to go. Light Armor provides a 15% damage increase and grants a dodge roll, which is great for creating space since the fire staff is a ranged weapon. However, it comes with 10% increase in crowd control duration. Maintaining distance is key, especially in light armor, as you want to avoid engaging in melee combat where youโ€™re more vulnerable. The dodge roll helps you create separation, allowing you to deal damage while avoiding hits.

Medium Armor, on the other hand, offers no damage boosts but also has no drawbacks. It provides more defense than Light Armor, making it a solid option if you want better protection while still retaining some mobility. Ultimately, both options help you manage distance and avoid damage, so your choice depends on whether you prioritize more damage or better defense.
