Today we have our first gameplay look at Vampyr, the upcoming action RPG from Dontnod Entertainment and published by Focus Home Interactive. The game is set to release sometime in 2017 on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Check out the moody and bloody action in the video above.

The trailer shows the gameplay we were able to witness firsthand at E3, from which we put together our detailed preview. It follows the story of Jonathan Reid, a doctor in 1918 London during the events of the Spanish flu epidemic. Newly turned to a vampire, Jonathan must balance his oath to tend to the sick with his need to feed on blood. Through investigative dialogue, Jonathan can learn more about his potential targets and make choices on their fate. Every choice has an impact later in the game. Combat is fast and lethal, showing a similarity to Bloodborne and Jonathan will grow as a vampire as he learns new abilities to compliment his use of weapons.

well it has me intrigued…. I know it was supposed to have a “bloodborne” feel, but I get MUCH stronger dragon’s dogma vibes from it *shrug*

These are the people who did Life is Strange. I’ve got to figure if nothing else, it’s going to have a solid story.
From what we saw at e3 and gamescom, the game is heavy with moral choices.
We will see how it grows before release.

Combat seems… disappointing. Story, lackluster and cliche. Mood? Ehhhhhhh.

It’s a very early trailer, so the animations being a bit off during cutscenes and conversations is understandable. Dialogue wheels are dialogue wheels, but here’s hoping they don’t do the thing where the protag’s spoken line isn’t what you’d thought it’d be from the wheel. Jonathan’s voice and commentary are saucy as all get out, which is fun.
The world and story seem pretty engaging. The trailer hints right away that the vampirism isn’t just a passing flu, and I almost wonder if someone’s using the flu (or the story of a flu) as a cover to do other things. A thick and dirty Victorian feel, choking oppression. Very nice.
I’m trying to figure out how enemies could tell Jonathan is a vampire just by seeing him when he doesn’t look much different from anyone else, but I guess they kind of have to so you don’t just walk through the game. Combat looks like a slower Bloodborne, and the way Jonny moves when fighting makes me think of the old movie “Nosferatu”. Which is odd, since that wasn’t exactly an action movie even back then, but that’s the impression I get. That ground spike was very unexpected, but also seems really slow. Skills being useful outside of combat is nice, like the teleport or mind control.
Makes me want to go back and play Dishonored again.
