Focus Home Interactive released a new trailer today called “Becoming the Monster” which shows off some new gameplay for Vampyr that is full of combat action. Showcasing a few of the abilities that protagonist Dr. Jonathan Reid is cursed with, it’s a trailer you can definitely sink your teeth into.
Vampyr “Becoming the Monster” Trailer
Focus Home Interactive the publisher of the upcoming Vampyr action RPG has released a new trailer that shares some of the combat players will face in the game. The main character Dr. Jonathan Reid is shown tackling numerous enemies in the form of humans that he must fight, take down and satisfy his insatiable hunger by draining their blood. Not only do we see the doctor prey and feed on humans, but we also get a glimpse of a new adversary a werewolf.
Throughout the trailer we hear a sinister narrator depicting the darker side of the doctor’s soul. Whether the doctor will choose to see humans no more than just blood bags, losing his side of humanity or fight the temptation and uphold his oath to protect the inhabitants of London only time will tell. The trailer ends with the vision of the mysterious “goddess”, does she hold the key to Reid’s powers? I guess we’ll have to play to find out.
The DONTNOD team have given players some different abilities to suit different playstyles, varying up-close combat with ranged attacks. They’ve shared some more detail about Reid’s abilities in the description of the video:
After draining the blood of his victims, Reid can learn and evolve powerful combat abilities. Close combat abilities allow Reid to close gaps quickly, pouncing from afar before slashing with deadly claws, while others such as Bloodspear allow him to deal damage from a distance. At the higher levels of power, some abilities are feared by even the vampires themselves. Abyss allows Reid to unleash the shadows from within, while Rage targets and strikes entire groups of enemies with a terrible fury. Learning and evolving these abilities will aid in the doctor’s quest to save London – but at what cost?
DONTNOD have definitely got the atmospheric feel of a Spanish Flu infested nineteenth century London down and the soundtrack is chilling. Are you excited for the release of this dark toothy RPG? Let us know in the comments below.
