New Tyranny Dev Diary Explains The Player Base Mechanic, Called Spires

A new developer diary from Obsidian on their upcoming CRPG, Tyranny takes a closer look at the player’s in game base mechanic, known as Spires.

As you explore the world, you will come across several structures known as Spires. Claiming one of these unlocks several beneficial features for your character. Here’s what they will provide for you:

Spires Features

  • Reduction in travel time: Each spire is connected to the others, so you can teleport between the ones you control, cutting down on your overworld travel
  • Upgrades: You can spend money to upgrade your Spire, providing different bonuses to your party. You get every benefit you upgrade when resting at any of your Spires.
  • Hiring Recruits: Once you’ve upgraded you can hire recruits to work on that upgrade. These recruits can train your party Skills, sell unique Weapons and Armor and make new items for you while you’re out hard at work spreading misery.
  • You can recruit people from different Factions in the game including ones that hate you if you’ve got the coin. Others are available depending on the choice you make during the game’s dynamic opening Conquest prologue.

Upgrading Spires

Spires have 4 possible upgrades you can make, and can only be built once and are permanent so choose wisely. Upgrades cost money monthly to maintain and if you can’t pay you can’t enjoy the benefits of the upgrade until you’re current. So pay your debts! The following are the upgrades you can make:

  • Infirmary: At the infirmary you can brew your own potions and poisons for your party.
  • Library: At the library you can have recruits research hidden lore on Sigils and Artifacts. This is useful for players interested in Spell Creation.
  • Forge: At the forge you can improve your Weapons and Armor and create unique Artifacts.
  • Training Grounds: Here, you can train yours and your party membersSkills to their highest ranks.

So now we know the comfy confines we’ll be calling home and how they will benefit us and our roving band! Tyranny releases on November 10th for PC. Keep checking back for more!
