oh, look at that. At least in riverwood I’m up to between 45 and 60.
They actually did improve it. I still don’t think it looks good enough to justify the performance problems, not when you have games like The Witcher 3 that look and run significantly better (even on AMD hardware and despite Hairworks screwing things up,) but it is a big improvement. For me at least, 45 is more or less the barrier between a playable game and an intolerable slide show when FPS is a factor, so that’s a big improvement. Now if I tweak some stuff, starting with godrays and AA, I might even manage a consistent 60.
I hope it’s one hell of an optomisation patch because the game appears to run poorly. Fallout 4 had more or less the same problem though (not looking good enough to justify the framerate problems) and they are using the FO4 engine so I’m not very hopeful. Maybe though. I kinda want to have 2 different builds and I’m too lazy to uninstall my current setup and get everything working with virtual installations on the regular skyrim, cus that would take like 4 hours, so I was hoping to keep that version and get to mod a new one without the extra work.
Not happening as it stands. If I’m looking at anything except the ground or sky the framerate immediately tanks down to 30 unless I’m running it on like medium settings (a *very* noticable downgrade.) It doesn’t go below 30 and it’s not always the case that 30 fps is unplayable for action games, no matter what elitists will tell you, but in this case 30 fps is unplayable and my original skyrim looks and runs better. I can actually see all the individual frames when it drops below 45 or so (constantly,) it looks like a flip book.
It might just be down to my video card, Fallout 4 heavily favored Nvidia performance wise so I have no reason to suspect otherwise here.
(Just to clarify, Guild Wars 2 frequently drops to 30 FPS on me and it will hover about there in crowded fights like with world bosses, but that slide show stuttering effect is never present so I barely notice, even when zoomed in close to things. I don’t know why. Dark Souls, Borderlands, and many others besides at 30 FPS has the same issue as Skyrim seems to, lest you think I’m picking on it)
