New Info On Bloodborne: The Old Hunters

In a post today on the Official Playstation Blog, SCEJ Producer Masaaki Yamagiwa shared some new details on what to expect from the upcoming Bloodborne expansion The Old Hunters. The expansion releases on Tuesday, and the packed patch 1.07 releases today, bringing new covenant The League as well as other new features such as Old Hunters NPC Summons. Yamagiwa took some time to reveal some new weapons and enemies and also share how players will access the DLC once it goes live.

Bloodborne Brador

New Enemy, NPC, Weapons and Rune

  • Brador, seen donning the scalp and horns of a foul beast, is an ancient Hunter and assassin once employed by the Healing Church who sits in a dark cell, waiting for something—or someone—with bell in hand. Wields the deadly Bloodletter.
  • Bell Holder, this massive enemy wields the Bell Axe and is one of the most formidable beasts you will face.
  • Bloodletter, a sick and demented weapon wielded by Brador. This weapon assumes its true form after drawing upon the blood of its wielder. In other words, you must plunge it into your own chest in order to unleash its true power.
  • Gatling Gun, a portable version of the stationary rapid-fire gun that Djura uses to rain down lead from the tower in Old Yharnam. While it is great for rapid-fire attacks, it is also cumbersome and goes through Quicksilver Bullets very quickly.
  • The Beast’s Embrace, after many failed experiments, this rune was forbidden from use. That did not stop its discovery from becoming the foundation of the Healing Church, however. Those brave, or foolish, enough to unleash the power of this rune take on a ghastly form and enjoy boosted transformation effects, especially when wielding a beast weapon.

Accessing The Old Hunters

Also explained was a step by step instruction on how to access the content, once you’ve installed it:

  1. Defeat Vicar Amelia and activate the skull in the Cathedral to turn day into night.
  2. Go to the Hunter’s Dream and receive Eye of a Blood-Drunk Hunter from a messenger.Bloodborne New DLC
  3. Go to the Oedon Chapel and leave via the left-hand exit to enter the square.
  4. Go to the right-hand end of the square to trigger an event. This event will take you to the new area: The Hunter’s Nightmare.Bloodborne New DLC 2
  5. Lighting the lamp in the new area will allow you to travel to and from the area via an Awakening Headstone in the Hunter’s Dream.

That’s a pretty straightforward method of accessing it, and it’s one that most players will be able to access rather quickly, regardless of where you’re at in a current playthrough. Keep coming back for more updates here and on the Bloodborne Wiki as we prepare to take on the new nightmares From Software has crafted for us!

  1. >Once they become visible, they remain visible until NG+, even if you only perceived them by having 50+ insight. But that does raise an interesting question. If the DLC is accessed via the Amygdala on the chapel… will there be other entrances? Other areas? There are three Amygdalas in the Ward, after all…

  2. Gatling gun:

req 28 str 12 skl, no bt

    E scaling in BT

80 blood attack at base level.

    spoilerfree for you. :o)

  3. With this random Amy that grabs you having a purpose I cannot wait to see the Lore Implications. One being that Amydala seems to be a gatekeeper to he nightmare realms. Its fitting that both Rom and Amydala who are spiders act in this way.

Oh, that will be difficult I post all the info of location, reqs etc. together with decription so the other folks can copy paste it into the wiki…

  5. >

I know that, thank you for posting the info. Just don’t me where it is. I want the joy of finding it myself, as with the other weapons and armor.

  6. Just make a backup copy of your save in case you dont like it. I guess we will need realy high bt for it to shine.

I will update my thread as soon as I find the gatling gun so you guys know the stats.

  7. >

then I will up my bloodtinge just for this, at least only temporarily just to try it out.

  8. >

I predicted this, as well as anyone who saw Djura on that baby. please don’t have a high Bloodtinge requirement.

  9. Yeah I’m thinking that considering we can warp easily back and forth between the new DLC, means we’ll likely hit a difficulty block and have to progress through the main game some more, level up and then return.

@Daos_Strange: Quite possibly, I’d hope so to give a bit of freshness to NG+. Plus from what I’ve heard the old Alfred and Gascoigne Signs have been changed (but still in the same locations) to reflect the addition of the League.

I’m wondering if there will be League NPCs available for the boss fights pre-Forbidden Woods once players are in NG+

Along with where they placed the League, I think they did a good job overall making this new content readily accessible for everyone, especially all the new players picking up the extended edition. They’ve definitely learned their lesson from Artorias of the Abyss’ convoluted access.

  12. Seems like they want players to tackle the DLC early in the game. Glad I only took my two new DLC-ready characters up to Forbidden Woods!!

  13. Honestly this DLC along with the patch is shaping up to be great fun. I’m really digging the additions and new tweaks overall.

  14. Huh, that’s quite interesting. I wonder what level the difficulty is given that we can access the DLC this early on. I’m also curious whether that Amygdala now stays there throughout, as I recall (its been a while since I last played) that the Amygdala’s around Yharnam dissappear at a certain point? Or maybe that change is them being permanently visible? I can’t remember xD.

I need to refresh myself on Bloodborne over the weekend.

  15. It sounds (and looks) like they’re describing where the Amygdala is. Maybe it wasn’t protecting just a top hat after all?
