We thought the door had closed, but hope springs eternal as Bethesda has announced that mods are in fact now coming to the PS4 for Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4, and the PS4 Pro will also launch November 10th with both of the titles supported.
We are excited finally to get modding to our PlayStation fans who have supported us for so long. Modding has been an important part of our games for over 10 years, and we hope to do even more in the coming year for all our players, regardless of platform.
Skyrim will have these features when it launches on October 28 and will receive mod support first. PS4 players can modify and create their own content by using the Creation Kit available here. You will not be able to upload external assets but will be able to use any assets that come with the game. Players can create a Bethesda account to browse and install mods for the game. After Skyrim is finished, Fallout 4 will be updated to support both mods and the PS4 Pro, to take advantage of the high powered features of the new console.
Bethesda then treated us to some new screenshots of the 4K renders for Skyrim.
All is well that ends well right? Good to see Sony and Bethesda working together on a solution. Skyrim SE releases October 28th for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Keep checking back for more updates and on Skyrim, Fallout and more!

I don’t think Sony did relent. In the earlier statement, I believe the exact line was “Sony won’t allow them to work as they’re supposed to,” not “Sony won’t allow them.” I’d bet my left foot it’s Bethesda who caved and accepted the “no external assets” thing.
Sony is being stupid. Part of modding (or downloading anything really) is taking responsibility for the integrity of your data, both gameing and personal, that’s on your system. If you aren’t OK with that, don’t mod. There are no 2 ways about it

Yeah, had to re-read that part but I think the whole part about the ‘no external assets’ thing is going to take away some of the better mods for the PS4. Since a lot of the better mods on PC are made with third-party software to create textures and mesh documents that would be exported into the mod creator, I’ve gotten just a little disappointed again.

I think it’s mostly due to the fact that they see the possibility of a malicious mod being created that could tarnish the system’s security in some way. They’ve already seen a lot in the way of security being breached on their end what with all the DDoS attacks and the like coming at them recently. So that’s probably why external third party software is being excluded from mod creation for their system.
I loved Skyrim so much that I put Dark Souls 1 (Oct 2011) aside for a year when Skyrim came out (Nov 2011) and I FUS RO DAH’d on PS3 until platinum and then all over again on 360. At this point I don’t care about mods, I just want a remaster for PS4 so I can plat again. In fact, I want a lot of games remastered for PS4, starting with Demon’s Souls, followed by Dark Souls 1.
Going to wait, though, since I will be playing the DS3 DLC and having mindless fun with DragonQuest Builders. I am surprised that Sony relented on allowing mods. It is so unlike Sony to relent.

A lot of those bugs are in the files so you can load up the kit and take a look at http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/71214/” rel=”nofollow? for what they changed and polished
If you guys ever want help with the Skyrim modding please just ask. I have tonnes of textures, too! Just let me know.
That shouldn’t be a problem, though not being able to import it and having to re-fix all those bugs could be.
As long as I can get that mod that fixes nearly all the bugs in the game, I’m happy
Well I would say i’m glad for PS players but they are restricting some content mod wise. So it won’t be the full experience. But I guess it’s better than nothing.
Do I understand the no custom assets thing right?. That’s a pretty serious restriction. You don’t get the best mod that currently exists.

More seriously, that does lock out a lot of weapon/armor mods and even some of the immersion stuff that used like, custom tents and backpacks or things like beartraps and spell effects. So tbh you’re only getting like, 1/3rd or 1/4 of the good mods. (again, assuming I understand it correctly, I could be dead wrong.) That would kinda mean the Xbox 1 version is still superior.
I do believe on the PS3 you can alter the Oblivion texture files and make them pretty. There was a post on some forums not long ago, although I will not cross link here as there might be questionable content otherwise stated on said website.
I’m actually really relieved to hear that mod support will be coming to the PS4 now. I’ll wait till mods come for Fallout before I end up getting the Skyrim remaster, just because I want to see how the mods will exactly work together with the PS4 system.

A remaster of Oblivion would be amazing, I actually prefer it over Skyrim myself. Especially if they were to create mod support for the system too during it’s remastering that would be incredible to see. At the same time though, I’ve heard talk of a new Elder Scrolls in the works already, so I don’t feel the need to overexcite myself too much over something that probably won’t happen anytime soon.

Oblivion was my Favorite Elder Scrolls. I might get it for PC so I can get the content the PS3 didn’t get, and go without the vampire glitches all of the time
Oblivion remains to this day one of my favorite games of all time. I would love a remastered version for PS4 but that’s a dream for another day. I can still play it on PS3 when the mood strikes.
I’m glad a resolution was found
Now to put Skyrim Remastered back on my “to get” list….
I can’t wait. I put in about 900 hours on PC and always have fun going back if I give it a long enough break (only exist now for me on a crappy laptop that I’ve ignored ever since getting my PS4 this past spring).
Not to mention, I always got bad frames on my PC, mods or no mods (and I used many). Only work around was lowering resolution into a smaller screen.
Now. HD tv. Remastered for PS4. A controller and no mouse. Sounds incredible. I just wish that they have started with Morrowind first. And to this day, Oblivion is still my favotite TES, so I would eat that one up in a second. But I love them all and will gladly take Skyrim instead.
I hope they don’t change their mind again about mods. I miss my Maru Mask and backpacks.
Good. So Playstation is making is so our mods cannot be pilfered from Nexus or ModDB. Excellent.
