Metaphor: ReFantazio sells more than 1 million copies worldwide on its release date, and Atlus surpasses any previous sales records for its games.
Metaphor: ReFantazio Is The New King of JRPG
Metaphor: ReFantazio is the new JRPG from Atlus and Sega for PC, Steam Deck, PS4, PS5, and Xbox, which still has a completely free demo, and has already surpassed one million copies sold at launchโa significant milestone.
Both the publisher and developer announced that their new game had reached this figure shortly after it went on sale in our country, on the very day of its release, in fact.
The game only needed a few hours on its worldwide release to become Atlus’ fastest-selling game, breaking the record previously held this year by Persona 3 Reload.
In Atlus’ announcement, the company revealed that these global sales were achieved thanks to the distribution of both physical disc and digital formats.
The new Japanese role-playing game developed by Studio Zero was created by Katsura Hashino and the team that developed the Persona franchise since Persona 3.
In the kingdom where this work is set, the royal family has been murdered, plunging the land into chaos, which triggers an unprecedented “electoral magic” in history.
This magic allows anyone, regardless of status, to become the next king, as long as they are popular with the people. It then turns into a battle for the throne.
The protagonist also becomes involved in this electoral battle and travels around the world, but since it’s based in a fantasy world, the characters and settings have a unique flavor compared to other Atlus games.
To celebrate the news that Metaphor: ReFantazio surpassed one million copies sold at launch, the company shared a new illustration by Shigenori Soejima.
Soejima is the character designer for the game, and you can check out the image a few lines below, in the embedded tweet where the news was confirmed.
“1 million! The total worldwide sales for Metaphor: ReFantazio, which went on sale today, have surpassed one million units,” Atlus said on X/Twitter social network.
Metaphor: ReFantazio currently holds high scores across each platform on Metacritic: 92 on Xbox, 93 on PlayStation 5, and 91 on Windows/Steam.
“The game also won the Future Division at the Japan Game Awards, which is voted on by the public annually, for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024, and it has received broad support from a large number of people,” they stated.
One Million Copies Sold at Launch
Before diving into its world, it’s recommended to play the aforementioned demo, as the Metaphor: ReFantazio demo previously had some issues.
Version 1.02 was released recently, fixing GPU errors and a series of minor bugs, making the adventure run better now.
