Mega Man X2: Deep-Sea Base Stage & Bubble Crab

Capcom’s Mega Man X2 action-platformer is split into 10 stages, the first being a tutorial or introduction stage, 8 main stages and then the final stage. Any of the 8 main stages can be done in any order you choose. Below is a guide for the Deep-Sea Base stage and it’s boss, Bubble Crab. I will explain how to defeat each enemy and boss in this guide.

Mega Man X2: Deep-Sea Base Stage & Bubble Crab

Players will face the boss Bubble Crab in this stage, but before they reach the boss they will come up against a few enemies. Enemies will include Batton Bone Gs, Fishern, Sea Canthllers, Jelly Seekers, Barite Lastars and Scrivers. I will explain what strategies to use in defeating each in this step-by-step guide.

Deep-Sea Base Stage

Proceed right destroying the Batton Bone Gs scattered around. Use the Spin Wheel on the breakable rocks to obtain the extra life and dive into the water.

Fishern will be swimming around, simply bypass them and head further down. A large fish submarine called Sea Canthller, will proceed to swim throughout the level. A charge shot of the Sonic Slicer directly under it will destroy it in 1 shot. The Sea Canthller shines a spotlight in a fixed arc and if it catches the player it will laser them down.

As players advance, there will be a long red gate that will open up granting passage to the rest of the level. There will be several Jelly Seekers floating around. Take them down with a few shots of the Mega Buster and continue dashing through the level.

If there’s an X-hunter in this level, make sure you have destroyed the Sea Canthller or move faster than it. Near the end of the level don’t go through the right gate., instead dash jump to the left and climb up the passageway to find the X Hunter boss area.

If players are simply going to the end of the level, enter through the right gate. There will be several Barite Lastars and Scrivers  in this passageway before Bubble Crab.

Boss: Bubble Crab

Bubble Crab slowly makes his way towards the player. At times, he may jump towards them to cover ground faster. Bubble Crab often brings up a bubble shield.

His other attacks include:

  • Shooting a bubble ring
  • Jumping and extending the range with shoulder spikes
  • Summons miniature crabs

To counter him, simply use Spin Wheel to pop his bubble and deal massive damage to him. This will hurt him more than once. The charged attack of Spin Wheel is also very handy in this fight. Make sure to wait for the wheel to completely disappear before firing the charged Spin Wheel.

Using the Mega Buster is an alternative if players do not have the Spin Wheel. Wait for Bubble Crab to jump up and shoot him while his bubble is down. Shooting him while dashing deals extra damage. It will take players longer to defeat him, but jumping over him using the walls and the water will lead players to victory.

Bubble Crab gives you the Bubble Splash, which is the weakness to Flame Stag in the Volcanic Zone stage and the stage you should tackle next.
