BioWare has released a brand new gameplay video for Mass Effect: Andromeda that looks at the game’s combat system. Have a watch below:
In the trailer we get a look at how the game’s combat is going to differ from past entries in the series. The jetpack allows for some new movements, and the dynamic cover system gives the game a faster, more fluid shooter feel. You can even use the Nomad for cover. Combining your new maneuvering and cover abilities allows you to approach combat from a more varied approach.
The weapons you’ll be using are a diverse offering. You can choose from Pistols, Shotguns, Sniper Rifles and Assault Rifles as well as melee weapons like Swords and Hammers. There are no class restrictions in the game so players can use any weapon they prefer. The weapons all behave differently depending on where they’re from, some are traditional projectile, others are beam based with recharge and some are plasma style that can be charged up for more damage.

The game’s skills let you customize the way you want to play. Combat skills let you focus on everything you need to be a powerful soldier, and let you equip explosives. Tech skills let you use experimental weapons or apply buffs/debuffs. Biotic skills allow you to control the battlefield with abilities that let you push and pull enemies. Skills can be further upgraded to improve their effectiveness. You can equip 3 actives at any time and they each have their own cooldown timer.

The video finishes with a look at the combat in action and shows how you can navigate through the various enemies, bringing down their shields using all of the different skills and weapons at your disposal.
