Magic: The Gathering Unveils Its First Look At the Final Fantasy Set

Wizards of the Coast and Square Enix revealed more details about the Final Fantasy set in Magic: The Gathering, along with additional information about the collection at MagicCon Las Vegas.

Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy

Themed sets in Magic: The Gathering continue to expand into different video game franchises. A few months ago, it was Assassin’s Creed’s turn, and recently, a new Marvel set was announced, set to hit stores in 2025.

At MagicCon Las Vegas, held from October 25-27, 2024, Wizards of the Coast presented a new themed set in the Magic: The Gathering Beyond the Multiverse collection, first teased in August 2023.

And, as you saw in the headline, itโ€™s the role-playing franchise Final Fantasy. Weโ€™ll have to wait until 2025 to enjoy the set, but at least we now have the first details.

The Final Fantasy series by Square Enix will arrive on June 13, 2025, in Magic: The Gathering, bringing the rich stories, fascinating characters, and powerful summons of the JRPG series to the usual card game format.

The set will cover the entire Final Fantasy storyline, from the original 1987 game to Final Fantasy XVI, recently released for PC.

Additionally, the Final Fantasy set will also be available in digital format for the card game Magic: The Gathering Arena.

A Sneak Peek at MTG Final Fantasy Set

The new Final Fantasy themed set represents the largest collection of illustrations from the JRPG saga. Some have been created by regular Magic: The Gathering artists, while others feature contributions from veteran Square Enix artists.

The collection includes magical creatures from the Final Fantasy universe, like Behemoth and the adorable Chocobos, as well as iconic characters such as Cloud, Sephiroth, Terra, Lightning, Noctis, and Tidus.

โ€œAt Square Enix, we are always looking for new ways to breathe life into the rich tradition and legacy of FINAL FANTASY. This collaboration is important to us because it allows us to merge the immersive narrative of FINAL FANTASY with the fun strategic gameplay of Magic: The Gathering, something fans of both franchises will enjoy,โ€ says Shoichi Ichikawa, producer of the saga.

Of course, the set also includes the seriesโ€™ most charismatic enemies, as well as summons, key locations, and much more.

โ€œThis collaboration goes beyond the cards; it celebrates decades of iconic characters, legendary stories, and unforgettable moments from one of the most beloved video game franchises. Fans of FINAL FANTASY will get to experience these characters in an entirely new way,โ€ assures Zakeel Gordon, Product Architect at Wizards of the Coast.

We donโ€™t know much more about the Final Fantasy set, except that it will be ready for June 13, 2025, in stores. However, at MagicCon, more details were provided about the Foundations set, which revisits the past, present, and future of the Magic: The Gathering universe. It will be available starting November 15, 2024.

Other upcoming releases for Magic: The Gathering include Innistrad Remastered (January 24, 2025), Aetherdrift (February 14, 2025), Tarkir: Dragonstorm (April 11, 2025), Edge of Eternities (August 1, 2025), Marvelโ€™s Spider-Man (2025), and another yet-to-be-revealed themed set (2025).
