Where are you most likely to die? Check the Dark Souls death map.

With us getting ever closer to the May release date of Dark Souls Remastered, you may find yourself getting nostalgic when you consider your return to Lordran. You remember that time when you died horribly? Ah, good times! Well, one player – Twitter user DriftItem – has been busy producing a visualisation of where the most players have left bloodstains and messages – making it a handy death map of Lordran.

“I’m collecting the data with a custom game client I wrote. Data preservation is one of my goals. DS1 multiplayer data isn’t stored on a central server but traded between clients. Once the DS1 remaster comes out and player number go down, a lot of data would get lost for ever.” – DriftItem

Dark Souls: The Death Map.

Each orange light represents roughly 12,000 bloodstains, while each blue light is roughly 8,000 messages. Check out the map below:

Here is the Dark Souls Death Map, by Twitter user DriftItem. Where were you when you died?

It’s worthwhile noting that so far he has only released a portion of the map. I hope he’ll release the full map at a later date. That outcropping on the far right is where you first meet Solaire, so the density of messages there is predictable. The bridge to his left is regularly scorched by the hellkite wyvern. The one above it is the area of the Taurus Demon fight. Both areas glow brightly in this map due to the orange bloodstains.

The Capra Demon and Gargoyles areas are both common death traps. The little path towards Undead Burg, from Firelink Shrine, is clearly also difficult for many players. To help simplify things further, DriftItem  has also released a captioned version of the death map:

And here is the captioned version of Dark Soul’s Death Map. Wow, Solaire has claimed a lot of victims!

  1. A surprising number of deaths at Firelink Shrine itself. Must be all those fights with Lautrec, or accidentally kiting skeletons from the graveyard….

And a surprising number of people dying against the twin snake dudes at the start of Sen’s? They weren’t THAT hard were they?

  2. I like how the most deaths occur in areas where the game introduces something new. Outside Firelink you have the graveyard with the skeletons, the Taurus Demon, Capra demon, etc.

Kinda cool to see it like this.
