The Collector’s Edition of Baldur’s Gate 3 has become one of the most unattainable items due to rampant speculation, a phenomenon that Larian has condemned on its social media channels.
Larian Calls Out Scalpers Reselling Baldur’s Gate 3 Collector’s Edition
Baldur’s Gate 3 was undoubtedly the standout game of 2023, a major milestone on PC, followed by its versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, which required a four-disc edition. Its significance was so great that Larian’s RPG earned the title of Game of the Year (GOTY) at five major awards, including The Game Awards and the Golden Joystick Awards.
Proof of its lasting impact is that it continues to make headlines. Some stories are more amusing, like the Astarion sex doll a fan created, but others are less enjoyable for players.
Hate scalpers, man. I understand how commodity works, but this CE isn’t a commodity it’s designed to make someone happy, not rich. If you’re buying it to trade, all you’re doing is making someone sad. pic.twitter.com/vtH2CX3OhQ

Baldur’s Gate 3 initially had a Collector’s Edition that included a Drow diorama, a fabric map, Magic cards, and many other luxury items, priced around €250. The problem is that only 25,000 units were produced, and a large portion of these ended up in the hands of scalpers, who are now reselling them for over €3,000.
Difficulties Caused By Scalpers
Fans have voiced their frustration over this situation, and these complaints reached Michael Douse, Larian’s head of publishing. In a post on X, Douse shared his anger, directly addressing the scalpers: “If you bought this edition to trade it, the only thing you’re doing is breaking someone else’s heart.”
The controversial edition went on sale even before the game’s official release, during its early access phase back in 2022. It was available for several months, but everything changed once Baldur’s Gate 3 officially launched, making it a target for scalpers who seized the last remaining units to resell at inflated prices.
Critics have attacked Larian’s handling of this situation, especially the limited run of just 25,000 units, compared to other AAA games that offer greater availability for their special editions.
Regardless, the scalping problem shows no signs of stopping. A recent example was the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition, which sold out immediately and led users to take special measures. Even Japan hasn’t been spared from hoarding: the newly opened Nintendo Museum had to limit the sale of souvenirs in its store because many of them appeared online at outrageous prices.
