Square Enix has announced the JRPG series of games Kingdom Hearts is coming to Nintendo Switch as a Cloud Version.

Kingdom Hearts games Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5, 2.5, 2.8, III + ReMind DLC will all be coming to Nintendo Switch via Cloud Versions on February 10th 2022. This means fans of the game can access them using the streamed gaming service on Switch. You can also check out the demos for free for 1.5+2.5, 2.8 and III.

Kingdoms Hearts 3 brought a host of loveable Disney characters to the game including the infamous Elsa from Frozen

Previously the titles were released for Playstation and Xbox and later came to PC via Epic Games Store. The most recent entry being Kingdom Hearts 3 which came to consoles in early 2019, followed by Kingdom Hearts ReMind DLC which included an additional story, a new scenario accompanying the end of KH3 plus more playable characters including Kairi, Riku, Aqua and Roxas.

The names for the Kingdom Hearts’ games are a little confusing, but essentially what 1.5, 2.5 and 2.8 contain are multiple games all wrapped up in a neat package. There was quite a gap between Kingdom Hearts 2 being released in 2005, with the last in the series Kingdom Hearts 3 finally being released in 2019, later with the ReMind version releasing with the final DLC.

Both Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix contains multiple games:

  • Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
  • Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories
  • Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (HD remastered cinematics)
  • Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
  • Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix
  • Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (HD remastered cinematics)

While the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue includes these titles:

  • Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD
  • Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –
  • Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover (movie)

Fans can buy an all-in-one collection or purchase the Kingdom Hearts III version, to gain the Advent Red Keyblade for Kingdom Hearts III + ReMind DLC. The collection is available for pre-order through Nintendo for $72. The titles are available individually ranging from $33 to $40. If you purchase before the release date the titles are $10 off.

Square Enix has also announced an anniversary event that will be happening on April 10th which will make the series 20th birthday. The event will host a mini-concert in Tokyo, set to have a chat and Q&A with the dev team, plus an exhibition and more.

While it might be a little disappointing for those who were hoping to play offline, this seems the way for the more taxing later titles to handle on the Switch. Although having more demanding ports such as The Witcher 3 handling well with some graphic adjustments, maybe an offline version wouldn’t have been too far-fetched.
