inXile Entertainment Next AAA RPG Will Use Unreal Engine 5

Last week Epic Games unveiled a stunning tech demo for PS5 showing what Unreal Engine 5 is capable of. Now one confirmed developer to be using this engine is inXile Entertainment. Head of the studio Brian Fargo confirmed on Twitter that their next-gen AAA project will be using Unreal Engine 5.

Exactly what the next title for the studio is, is still under wraps but Fargo confirms it will be an RPG which is in their wheelhouse of games with Bard’s Tale and Wasteland. Currently they are finishing up Wasteland 3 which is set to release on August 28th, after pushing back the launch date due to Covid-19.

Unreal Engine 5 is the next-gen game engine developed by Epic Games, which comes with two major features Lumen and Nanite. Lumen provides a universal lighting system that helps developers construct realistic looking lighting effects, while Nanite lets devs take movie-quality digital assets and place them straight into their games. From what we saw of the demo running on PS5, it looks fairly realistic and will create some amazing gameplay.

Last year inXile Entertainment joined Microsoft Studios, adding another studio to add RPGs to both their Xbox and PC lineup. During the Inside Xbox this month we got to see a number of third-party titles coming to Xbox Series X. In July we should be seeing some new first-party titles.

Currently the next title set to release by inXile is Wasteland 3, which recently got a dev diary update covering character creation, combat and more.
