Hu Tao And Yoimiya Dual DPS Build Guide | Genshin Impact | Abyss Ready

In this Genshin Impact Guide I’m going to be showing you my Dual DPS Build for Hu Tao and Yoimiya. This build is meant to transform the Burst playstyle of Hu Tao into full sustained damage; by adding Yoimiya as a second damage dealer during Hu Tao‘s downtime. It removes the classic Cryo support, and Hydro healer roles from Hu Tao Melt Build Guide, and adds second Pyro, and an Anemo healer for Pyro resistance shred from Viridescent Venerer. All while maintaining the Hydro aura from Xingqiu to Vaporize both Hu Tao and Yoimiya Attacks.

Such a build is much more expensive Resin-wise, as you have to build two characters, both on field and full DPS. However, it enables an aggressive playstyle, with a higher damage ceiling, and better debuffs on enemies. So if this sounds like your kind of playstyle, this is worth checking out.

In this Guide I’ll explain just how to build Dual DPS Hu Tao and Yoimiya to conquer the open world, event challenges, and Spiral Abyss. I’ll go through what Weapons to use, what Artifacts to upgrade and which companions to pick up.

Hu Tao And Yoimiya Dual DPS Build Guide

Both Hu Tao and Yoimiya are Pyro characters, with focus on single-target damage. While Hu Tao consumes a lot of stamina to perform her charged attacks, Yoimiya on the other hand spams Normal Attacks; giving a chance for stamina to recover. First Yoimiya applies Pyro, then Sayu Swirls the Pyro aura, to get the Viridescent Venerer debuff on enemies. Afterwards, Xingqiu uses his Elemental Skill, activates Burst, and then switch to Hu Tao to Reverse Vaporize her charged attacks. When Hu Tao finishes her rotation though, there’s still a duration remaining on Xingqiu‘s Burst (6 seconds on Xingqiu‘s C0, and 9 seconds on C2). We can double down on such a duration with Yoimiya as a second DPS, Vaporizing her attacks as well.

Hu Tao is the main damage dealer on the team, because she can amplify all her charged attacks through a Vaporize reaction. While Yoimiya is treated as a secondary DPS, to fill downtime. However, in certain situations where enemies are scattered around, and you have no way to group them, Yoimiya‘s range comes in handy. Between Hu Tao‘s melee excellency, and Yoimiya‘s superior range, you have a versatile team to tackle most situations.

This team could use a pyro shield support such as Thoma, Yanfei, or Xinyan, to remove the need for a healer. It would allow the use of a more offensive Anemo units, such as Kazuha or Sucrose. While it can output more damage in theory, it lacks any form of healing, and is extremely vulnerable to Corrosion. Not only that but with the introduction of enemies who counter shields in version 2.5; it has become a necessity to have a working iteration of every build that doesn’t rely on shields.

Second Abyss Team Setup to Use With a Hu Tao & Yoimiya Dual DPS Build

For this team to work, you need an Anemo healer to use Viridescent Venerer. This build focuses on building a team using the concept of shredding Pyro resistance, before switching to Xingqiu and establishing Hydro aura. Currently, there’s only two Anemo healers, the five-star Jean, from the original cast, or the more accessible four-star Sayu, introduced in 2.0. There’s a reason Sayu had an increased chance in both Hu Tao and Yoimiya banners, as she specifically enables this version of the team.

With that said, you shouldn’t expect to build a second Abyss team that relies on an Anemo healer, such as our Ayaka Freeze Build. Your second team can’t rely on Xingqiu as a Vaporize enabler either. Besides that, you have a wide variety of options to build your second team; with all strong four-star supports being available, such as Bennett, Xiangling, Fischl, and Sucrose. Even premium five-star supports such as Zhongli, Kazuha and Venti are all possible options.

Since Hu Tao and Yoimiya‘s side will focus on single target, this should encourage you to build the second half with an AOE focused build. Ganyu is able to run any of her freeze builds such as the expensive Venti and Mona versions; or she can go with a budget Reverse Melt such as the Bowless Archer build. You could also run the cheaper Kaeya And Rosaria Reverse Melt Build, consisting of only four-star characters. Another possibility is to set up any Geo DPS team such as Itto or Noelle, The Invulnerable Maid; or go with an Anemo Xiao team. The Zhongli Overload Build also provides an option, and all other variations of Beidou teams, such as Wolf of Land and Sea are viable. Finally, all of the Overload teams are available as well. This means you can have your picks of options, providing quite some flexibility.

Hu Tao Dual DPS Attributes

When it comes to Hu Tao and Yoimiya‘s personal stats, it doesn’t change from their respective guides: Hu Tao Melt Build Guide, and Yoimiya Over-Vaporize Build Guide. We aim to give Hu Tao around 300~350 Elemental Mastery, then fill up % HP, Crit Rate, and Crit Damage stats. So we use EM on Sands, Pyro Damage Bonus on Goblet, and Crit Rate on headpiece. Then focus on Crit and % HP on sub stats.

Hu Tao Dual DPS Weapons

A lot of new polearms have come out since the Inazuma update in 2.0, considering how Polearm fits the culture of the Inazuma region. However, none of the new polearms have really affected Hu Tao‘s build or playstyle. Hu Tao mainly focuses on HP scaling, EM and Charged Attack damage, while new polearms focus on an Attack stat, or Elemental Burst damage. So we still maintain the same standard recommendation of weapons for Hu Tao.

Free three and four stars weapons

white-tassel-polearm-weapon-genshin-impact-wiki-guideWhite Tassel is still competitive if you lack any better weapon, with Critical Rate sub stat of up to 23.4%, and Normal Attack damage multiplier of 48%.

Use it as a starter weapon, until you get Dragon’s Bane.

Gasha 4 Star Weapons

dragons-bane-polearm-weapon-genshin-impact-wiki-guideDragon’s Bane also maintain its superiority in four star category, especially with high refinement. It gives a huge EM bonus to multiply Amplifying reactions such as Vaporize. On top of that, it adds another damage multiplier against enemies affected by Hydro or Pyro. In this build, you always get this bonus whether you get a Vaporize during Xingqiu‘s elemental burst, or when Yoimiya steals Vaporize with her Burst ticks, and replaces hydro aura with Pyro for a brief millisecond.

Battle Pass Four Star Weapon

One weapon to consider if you lack any good source of Crit Rate is to use the battle pass weapon, Deathmatch. It’s an upgrade over White Tassel; but competes with Dragon’s Bane, it only shines when it is allowed you to get closer to a 1:2 Crit Rate : Crit DMG ratio. Say you have only 40% Crit Rate with a Crit Rate Circlet, and around 125% Crit Damage, it remains at a very unbalanced ratio of 1:3, and needs some fixing. Using Deathmatch will give you a straight up 36.8% Crit Rate at the max level, pumping your overall Crit Rate to 76%. This is a 1:1.7 ratio, which is much closer to 1:2, and has a higher Crit value overall.

The Ultimate Weapon

Staff of Homa is the signature weapon of Hu Tao, and has seen a rerun in a very decent banner along with Elegy for the End Bow. This banner was one of the very rare weapon banners that’s worth pulling in Genshin’s history. It has two good weapons that can see a wide variety of usage, for their specific characters, and others as well. It was especially good for Hu Tao and Yoimiya, since Staff of Homa is the best in slot weapon for Hu Tao. Elegy for the End is the best support/DPS hybrid weapon for Yoimiya in the context of this build.

If you have both, or either of them, it’s definitely a good upgrade for the team. If not, then you can suffice with a high refinement of Dragon’s Bane, which has several ways to acquire it.

Hu Tao Dual DPS Artifacts

Hu Tao should use any standard artifact set combinations for Vaporize:

Crimson Witch of Flames

With 15% Pyro damage bonus, 15% Vaporize damage bonus, and an extra 7.5% Pyro damage bonus after using Elemental skill; Crimson Witch of Flames is one of the top choices for Vaporize builds. Use it if you got a good four piece, or use a hybrid set if you don’t want to spend long months farming it in domains.

Shimenawa’s Reminiscence

The bonus from the four pieces of Shimenawa’s Reminiscence is straight-up 50% more damage to both normal and charged attacks. This will help Hu Tao‘s damage even if she loses one or two Vaporizes to Yoimiya. It will reduce Hu Tao’s energy by 15 every rotation, which makes her unable to Burst on every rotation. Missing burst is not a DPS loss though, especially with Yoimiya using the time saved from not using Hu Tao‘s burst, to deal damage by herself.

It’s usually better to farm Shimenawa’s Reminiscence domain over Crimson Witch of Flames, to get more value for your Resin.

Crimson Witch of Flames/Wanderer’s Troupe/Tenacity of the Millelith

The standard hybrid combination for Hu Tao picks the strongest pieces from each set, and uses it to maximize sub stats. Crimson Witch of Flames‘s two pieces provide 15% Pyro damage, Wanderer’s Troupe gives 80 EM, and Tenacity of the Millelith have 20% HP. Feel free to mix and match any of two of these three for maximum efficiency.

Hu Tao Dual DPS Talent Skills

Secret Spear of Wangsheng

Normal Attacks and Charged Attacks of Hu Tao do physical damage by nature. However, Hu Tao converts them to Pyro damage for 9 seconds after casting her Elemental Skill. So only use her rotation in these 9 seconds, then switch to Yoimiya afterwards.

You can either do one normal attack, one charged attack, then jump cancel. Or you can go with two normal attacks, one charged attack, and jump cancel. If you have C1 for Hu Tao, her charged attacks consume no stamina, so you can do the more aggressive dash cancel.

When leveling up talents, max this talent skill first.

Guide to Afterlife

An Elemental Skill that converts all Hu Tao damage to Pyro type, consume 30% of her HP, and gives her bonus Pyro damage bonus depending on her Maximum HP.

Use Elemental Skill at the very moment you switch to Hu Tao, before using any of her normal and charged attacks. When the buff duration ends, all allies in the party (excluding Hu Tao herself) get a 12% Crit Rate increased by 8s. That’s a very important component when buffing Yoimiya‘s attacks after switching Hu Tao out.

When it comes to leveling talents, max this talent second, after normal/charged attacks.

Spirit Soother

Elemental Burst that should be used at end of Hu Tao‘s 9-second rotation, if you have energy for it. It deals damage as an AOE around Hu Tao, and recovers HP for her depending on a number of enemies it hits. We don’t have to worry about healing since we have a dedicated healer on our team; we only use burst for the extra AOE, if needed. Otherwise, we can just skip Burst and switch to Yoimiya to keep doing damage for longer.

I’ve gone into more detail for all of Hu Tao’s skills in our Hu Tao Melt Build Guide, so check it out.

Hu Tao Dual DPS Party Composition

The party composition for this team is a bit strict and can be more demanding than say your average build. That’s because we use dual DPS and five-star characters. You can go with four-star alternatives for the second Pyro slot, but they are just defensive options, and none can fill as both DPS and support quite like Yoimiya.

Yoimiya

Yoimiya in our team is not just a support, she doubles as a second on field dps. It’s a rare situation, you seldom encounter in team building; so I’ll go through extensive details on how to make it work.

The first component in Yoimiya‘s kit is the Attack buff she gives to her team. Using Elemental Burst causes nearby party members (not including Yoimiya) to gain a 10% ATK increase for 15s. An additional 10% Attack can be given if Yoimiya performs 10 hits with normal attacks before casting Burst. Such a buff helps both Hu Tao and Xingqiu deal slightly more damage, especially with the lack of sources of other Attack buffs from the rest of the team.

Besides that, Yoimiya marks one target with her burst that lasts for 10 seconds. This allows Yoimiya to deal Pyro damage to the target from off-field when they take damage from any other source. This damage procs every 2 seconds, and can react with the Hydro attacks procced by Xingqiu causing Vaporize, extending Yoimiya‘s usefulness while off the field.

Yoimiya on-field role

As I mentioned earlier, Hu Tao‘s elemental skill duration is too short, and ends while Xingqiu‘s Burst still active. If we switch from Hu Tao to Yoimiya, we can seamlessly continue to do damage and cause additional Vaporize with Yoimiya‘s arrows. That’s especially useful against enemies that comes in waves, as you kill the first wave with Hu Tao‘s melee attacks, and the second wave spawns far away from team. With the transition to Yoimiya, you can immediately attack more distant enemies; so you don’t waste time and stamina chasing after them.

Yoimiya‘s ideal combo consists of five, uninterrupted, normal attacks; so she can Vaporize the third and fifth hit, which have the biggest multipliers. So you need to watch out for aggressive enemies, who have a lot of crowd control, as these will likely interrupt Yoimiya.

As both, the first character in rotation, and the last, Yoimiya has to ensure the rotation ends as it starts; with the Pyro element applied on the enemy. That means, at the start, you use her Burst, then switch out to the Anemo unit. Later when you switch to her after Hu Tao, you have to wait for Xingqiu‘s burst to end; so he can stop applying Hydro, and Pyro takes over. Now you can switch to the Anemo unit to Swirl the Pyro.

Typically, if you have the energy, you need to use Yoimiya‘s Burst as the very last thing before switching her out. But if you don’t have the energy, just switch as soon as the enemy is affected by Pyro.

Stats

In a dual DPS team, Yoimiya can play a crucial role as both support and on field DPS. So you have to build both Energy Recharge, and the offensive stats to deal damage. However, in reality, to burst on cooldown with Yoimiya, you need over 170% ER. This amount can’t be achieved without either Elegy for the End Bow, or sacrificing offensive stats. The Elegy for the End bow gives 55.1% ER at max level, so we only have to get around the 20% extra ER from sub stats.

In case we don’t use Elegy for the End, we push ER from sub stats slightly higher, and still don’t get to burst in every rotation. Instead, Yoimiya will use her burst in the first rotation, then skips it in the second round, and burst in the third… etc.

Aside from ER, we build Yoimiya as a typical DPS, with focus on % Attack on Sands, Pyro Damage Bonus on Goblet, and Crit Damage on the Headpiece. Note that % Attack will be very valuable in this team, as the main stat or sub-stat, because this team doesn’t have an attack buffer such as Bennett or Sara. So for sub stats, we focus on Crit, Attack, EM, and ER stats.

Weapon

elegy for the end bows weapon genshin impact wiki guide 150pxIn contrast with Yoimiya Over Vaporize build, the best in slot weapon for Yoimiya in dual DPS build is Elegy for the End. It’s a limited five-star weapon, that can only be acquired through wishing on weapons banner.

By standard, I don’t recommend wishing on weapon banners; unless you are absolutely sure you have good use for the two featured five star weapons. Such was the case with Elegy for the End that came in the same banner as Staff of Homa.

Elegy for the End has 608 base attack, higher than four star bows, but lower than other five star bows. It has an Energy Recharge sub stat, which is useful, but not ideal for a damage dealer character.

However, it has a very strong passive that benefits Yoimiya and her team. First it increases Elemental Mastery of Yoimiya by 60. Then Yoimiya will build stacks of “Sigil of Remembrance” when the DoT from her Burst, hit enemies. Upon reaching 4 stacks, weapon consumes them, and all team gain a buff; increasing Elemental Mastery by 100 and increasing Attack by 20% for 12 seconds.

The buff from Elegy for the End align very well with our rotation, and it will buffs Hu Tao for the entire duration while she deals damage. It also buffs Xingqiu‘s burst, to help him deal more damage.

Three and Four Star weapons

slingshot-bows-weapon-genshin-impact-wiki-guiderust-bows-weapon-genshin-impact-wiki-guide

As the case with most people who don’t have Elegy for the End, they need to pick up a full offensive weapon to pump Yoimiya’s damage. She goes well with either, the cheap three star weapon Slingshot R5, or the four star Rust.

Actually, Rust at a higher refinement gives Yoimiya more damage than most five star weapons. So you can easily deal good damage with Yoimiya with cheap weapons.

Artifacts

Similar to Hu Tao, Yoimiya can use four pieces Crimson Witch of Flames. However, you want the best pieces of Crimson Witch of Flames on your Hu Tao. So you better resort to hybrid set on Yoimiya, such as two pieces Crimson Witch of Flames and either two pieces Shimenawa’s Reminiscence or Gladiator’s Finale.

In extreme cases, you can use two Shimenawa’s Reminiscence and Gladiator’s Finale to double on Attack bonus; so you leave all Crimson Witch of Flames pieces to Hu Tao.

Xingqiu

Xingqiu is the single best Hydro enabler to all Reverse Vaporize teams, there’s no escape using him in each version of these builds. His hydro aura is consistent, and also deals decent damage, especially with Hu Tao Crit buff, and Yoimiya attack buff. In addition to that, he gives damage resistance and interrupt resistance to team. Xingqiu with Sacrificial Sword can generate very nice elemental particles, to help himself recharge his burst, since he is the single hydro character in party.

His Elemental Burst will shoot down rain swords on targets alongside normal attacks of any character on the field. Hu Tao, performs one or even two normal attacks before using a Charged attack to proc Xingqiu‘s burst with ease. As Yoimiya relies solely on Normal Attacks, you will always apply Hydro first, before proccing Vaporize with either of these two.

We use Xingqiu‘s attack while enemies still have Pyro aura from Anemo Swirl prior to him. So if you use Xingqiu‘s Elemental Skill, you get to forward Vaporize one of his hits, dealing increased damage. With Sacrificial Sword, you can use Elemental Skill, then Elemental Burst, then an Elemental Skill again. But if you use another weapon to reduce Xingqiu‘s on field time, you can just go for Burst first and Skill second.

Stats

This team still has a healer, so we don’t need any healing from Xingqiu, and can build a full DPS position. Xingqiu as the sole Hydro healer needs a lot of Energy Recharge, so we go for ER on Sands, Hydro Damage on Goblet, and Crit Rate or Crit Damage on headpiece for main stats. For sub stats, we go with Energy RechargeAttack, and Crit.

One major change between our dual DPS team versus a classic hyper carry team is the need to squeeze the rotation; to allow more time for the two damage dealers. So we aim to shorten Xingqiu‘s time, this can be achieved if we get enough ER from Emblem of Severed Fate, ER Sands, and sub stats. You may maximize ER without a weapon, to ditch Sacrificial Sword, and use more DPS oriented weapons.

Weapon

sacrificial-sword-sword-weapon-genshin-impact-wiki-guideFor Energy regeneration build, we need to use the Sacrificial Sword for Xingqiu. It can reset the cooldown of Xingqiu‘s Elemental Skill, to use casts instead of one.

It gets better with a higher refinement level, so make sure to get more copies of this weapon if you have a chance.

However, if you have Xingqiu at C6, and build around +190% ER without weapon, you could use Inazuma craftable weapon, Amenoma Kageuchi. This weapon regenerates energy passively, without extending the rotation. It have Attack sub stat, and can output more damage.

If you push ER to +240% though, you can virtually use any five star, full offensive weapon, for maximum damage. You could go with Mistsplitter Reforged, Aquila Favonia, or Jade Cutter, as they all provide massive dps increase. Meanwhile, Skyward Blade push for similar damage, while also giving high energy recharge.

Artifacts

Since its introduction, Emblem of Severed Fate became a stable best in slot, for artifact sets when it comes to supports who have a high energy cost Burst. So just stick to Emblem of Severed Fate for four pieces, as it will be better for ER, and deal a massive boost to burst damage.

Sayu/Jean

The last slot is reserved for an Anemo healer, as the team needs both: debuff from Viridescent Venerer which can be used only by Anemo unit, and healing. This narrows down the choice quite a bit, leaving Sayu and Jean; and since Jean is a five star character with no rate up banner, Sayu is more likely choice due to accessibility.

We use Sayu right after Yoimiya, to Swirl the Pyro element Yoimiya applied at start of rotation. This Swirl causes Pyro to spread in an AOE fashion, and procs the Viridescent Venerer set effect to shred enemy resistances for 10 seconds. Sayu uses her Elemental Skill to do so; and while she has a press version of her skill, it generates less elemental particles, and deals less damage. So it’s better to use the hold version, then quickly press the skill again to cancel the rolling.

It’s performed as the following: Hold -> Release -> Press. This technique effectively takes same time as the press version, while having all benefits from the hold version.

Sayu is a healer, and she can heal a lot through the use of Elemental Burst. However, Hu Tao wants to stay under 50% HP to deal more damage. That’s why we don’t spend her Burst in every rotation, and heal only when the team is very close to death.

Stats

Normally we build Sayu depending on how many constellations she has. At zero constellations, you want to focus on her Attack stat, as the sole source of damage and healing. While C6 enables EM to heal and deals more damage.

Unlike other teams though, here we don’t use Sayu‘s burst as often. Additionally, we don’t have time for her to use the prolonged hold version of the elemental skill. So the EM scaling is mostly negligible, even at C6, and we often focus solely on Attack.

I suggest building Energy Recharge on Sands, % Attack on Goblet, and either Healing Bonus or % Attack on Circlet. The idea is to get as much % Attack on main as well as % Attack on sub stats.

Weapon

wolfs gravestone claymore weapon genshin impact wiki guide 150pxSayu uses a Claymore, so you can give her anything from the wide range of support or DPS weapons. Katsuragikiri Nagamasa is one weapon that helps Sayu with energy issues, allowing her to go full EM, or Attack, but it’s not the only weapon. A better ER weapon is the infamous five star Skyward Pride.

Sayu can also go for an Attack weapon, as it scale her damage and healing. You can use the event exclusive, Luxurious Sea-Lord, or the five star Wolf’s Gravestone. All are solid weapons that can do better than craftable weapons. Especially the Wolf’s Gravestone weapon which gives Sayu herself the highest damage and healing outcome; and can buff all allies with another Attack buff.

Artifacts

As the sole Anemo in team, Sayu prefers to use Viridescent Venerer, to shred enemies Pyro resistance. It enables Hu Tao to deal much more damage, and is the reason we use Sayu in first place. Note that Viridescent Venerer debuffs last only for 10 seconds, after Sayu‘s swirls Pyro. Meanwhile, you have to use Xingqiu before switching to Hu Tao, so he consumes like 2 to 4 seconds from these 10 seconds. That means Hu Tao will not benefit from the full debuff duration, and Yoimiya will not benefit from it at all.

This is fine, as the damage difference it causes is still huge. But you are advised to minimize Xingqiu‘s field time, for Hu Tao to get more benefit from the debuff.

You have reached the end of the Guide. We hope you found this build useful, and hopefully, it gives you a good idea of how to maximize both Yoimiya and Hu Tao to their full potential.
